They say it's going to take over smoking as America's #1 killer that can be controlled. And it's just because people don't care until they realize it's going to kill them. The fact that people continue to eat at McDonalds and other fast food places is an insult to mankind, if that's how you want to look at it. It's a disease just as much as cancer, but this one CAN be easily controlled. The effort required is just too much for most of America.
I think heart attacks killing people at 50 years old is a good reason to call obesity a disease.

Common sense is important, but very few people have it when it comes to eating.

Very few people go about weight loss the right way because it's time consuming and has slow results. Because of all the other unhealthy waya people try to lose weight, it's become unsafe. You can't starve your body from nutrients it needs in order to lose weight. Sure, it will work (and fast), but it's very dangerous.
In today's society, people don't make time for exercise and cooking a healthy dinner instead of McD's.

With the "bringing it on yourself" I have to agree. Keeping in mind a few special exceptions, an obese person made themself that way by living an unhealthy lifestyle. What's more, a majority of Americans don't even care that they are obese, because they're not alone. And that's depressing.
