Lately, I've been having connection issues. I wouldn't make a big deal out of this normally, I know that sometimes it happens. But now I'm curious about it because I dont know what the problem is.
I called cox for help (yes my provider is cox. shut up ) and before even letting me explain what was going on, they said to get a new modem. I don't think the modem is the problem, because it's only a couple months old.. that wouldn't be the problem right? I also thought that maybe my wireless signal for my laptop was simply too weak, but that wasn't the problem either after checking my mom's computer.
The problem isn't just a temporary connection loss for all users, because my dad has the same provider and his internet is never faulty. I don't know what the problem is. The cable light on my modem is ON, but there's no net.
It's extremely irritating to be told my internet is working, when it's actually off for hours at a time.
I've tried restarting the entire system, shutting down everything, and rebooting it all, but doing that only results in the modem kicking back on with no cable feed at all. Then waiting for it to return is much much longer.
My brother and my mom (who know even less about computers than I do, mind you) continually keep saying that it must be the plug outlet in the wall. We have had bad outlet experiences before in my house, with the outlets being too old to even hold the plugs in anymore. But where my computer is at, the plugs aren't falling out or having any trouble at all. Nor is there a problem with possibly overheating, because everything is plugged into a surge protector.
I'd like to be able to figure out what the problem is, because it's becoming more frequent that this happens to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong? I would really appreciate it.
And I apologize for my less than perfect descriptions, but computer jargon is not my thing. =(

I tried unplugging the modem, it didn't make a difference. When I called for help, they told me that if unplugging didn't work, try shutting EVERYTHING down. That only made it worse.. yes my tv still works. That's not the problem.
They've been out before, they gave us the modem we have now because our old one was faulty. But I guess we could try calling them out again..

I've had the same doctor since I was a year old, this guy has given me pretty much every shot a kid needs growing up, ect. He's really cool, his family is really cool, it's all just cool. So I don't really fear going to the doctors too much.

Haha, I actually thought something like that was going to happen to me last summer. I went to Idaho because I have some random relatives that live on a farm there, and they took us to feed their cows one morning. Well, my nephew asked me to take him up to one of the babies, and my relatives said it was fine.. WRONG. The cows all got pissy and practically started running, so I hurried back to the truck everyone was in and we had to speed away. It was horrible.

Yeah, California's been shaking nonstop these past few weeks. There's been easily over 50 recorded quakes. It's insane.

So your signal strength is fine, you've pretty much done everything that I could possibly think of myself (other than I would just power it down and wait for it to reconnect rather than straight unplug). Only thing I can figure is that the ISP itself sucks. I've had issues myself with my DSL modem telling me it's online when there's nothing going through (in fact it happens randomly, like 15 minutes ago). It's probably not your fault more than it is their's.

But then, by saying that your father's comp worked fine, did you mean by at the same time as yours being connected or at different times? If both are off at the same time then it's the connection not going through period, but if it's just your comp then it's something different.

My dad's comp, which is at a different house, works fine. By that, it means it's not just the provider being down. So it's something in my house, I just don't know what.
My mom's computer, which is in this house, doesn't work either. They both go out at the same time and come back at the same time. On the few occasions that my laptop goes out and hers doesnt, it's because my dog is laying on the wireless router or something.
Like I said, we've had them come out and take a look, and all they do is give us (or sometimes charge us) for a new modem. I don't think that's the problem every single time, it's getting old.

Right on.
I got a copy of the Be Cool soundtrack, and it's rather stupid. There's one song by the Black Eyed Peas called "Sexy" and it is one of the strangest songs I've ever heard. I'm glad I didn't spend my money on this, but got a free burn instead.

Talk about insensitive. Can't you see that a woman lost her life because of this?

Can't you see some people couldn't give half a crap at the same time?

Actually I do, since i'm a bit disturbed by the thought of someone finding this funny. Sure people being a dumbass and getting hurt by say, running along a forklift treads can be amusing, but not this. O_o
