Actually, the text found on the menu uses a special font that only uses the characters you see. You can see most of the letters in (I think) Gfx2A and the rest are spread through the surrounding Gfx files. Translating it would be tricky, but not impossible.

Like I said, using filters is not something I generally like for screenshots, but if mostly everyone wants them and it doesn't hurt to use them, I might as well. And now I've switched to 2xSai, by popular demand.

As you can see, I've started work on the sprites. I don't expect that I will heavily edit them, and I probably won't change them much more than what you see now. I decided to change the sprites to a more "cartoon-y" look by removing most interior black lines and adding those same black lines to the outside. I think it works well, but comments are always appreciated.

That's BS and you know it. We only see the real nice Japanese hacks, I'm more than certain that there is just as many crappy Japanese hacks as their are American, European, etc.

My only complaint is the weird disco effect already mentioned. Everything else is pretty much good.

No offense to Blisseh, but his overworld could be tons better.

And in regards to no one finishing hacks, that's why it's taking me so long to finish mine. It doesn't take THAT much work to change all the graphics, after all. I work on it for a couple weeks at a time, take a break for a while, and work some more. It keeps me from getting bored with it and abandoning it.

I suppose I was a rude bastard, not including Map16 with anything I've submitted yet. You'll have to construct them by hand if you want them, at least until I get some free time to submit the Map16 (plus an updated version of the set).

You made a small mistake with the Map16 of the cactus. I was afraid it might be confusing.

Here I have highlighted the problem.

And here I have highlighted the correct tile to make the cactus look correct.

I can see the feet, but only just barely. Consider making the feet a radically different color than the rest of the body, like most of the original SMW sprites.

I think that we should at least announce our new tilesets in this topic, so they won't go unnoticed.

I'm looking for opinions on which of the following styles of changes for the overworld graphics is the best. I added a tad bit of shading to the cliff sides, to keep the style consistent and also smoothed up some corners a little bit. The only problem is that I can't decide how to segment the different sections. Look over the 3 styles below and tell me which one you think the best is.

If you have an alternative, do not hesitate to let me know.

Some of the later levels are WAY too hard, especially the one where you gotta bounce off of the ghost goombas or whatever they are.

Yes, I do believe this is the first successful sprite hack, unless we are terribly mistaken. Good job on that, at least.

It is possible, just like most things you would want to do in a SMW hack. Getting the present game engine to do what you want is another story altogether.

He might be referring to the straight edges of the normal pipes. If so, I agree with him. They definitely look like crap. I always hate how people cop out on making pipes smooth with the ground by making their edges completely straight. ExGFX is your friend.

EDIT: I'm a little slow tonight.

Oh, of course that is one possibility. But I like to keep my pipes the same as the original SMW graphics, just as a stylistic choice. And since editting isn't an option, I would be required to use ExGFX. Or edit out some little used tiles in the original GFX files, which I am also not prepared to do for various reasons.

Whatever works for you is always the best option, as long as it doesn't look like crap.
