| The next world is barren, yes, but I prefer to call it industrial. Sort of, ya know, almost post apocalyptic. It's not exactly that, but that's the closest description I can think of. Oh yeah, the whole rest of the game isn't going to be some dark and dreary thing. Just the main overworld has that theme, for story reasons which you can probably guess. The various submaps and what have you will have their own themes, and I'm sure some of them will have a happier overtone. Though, now that you guys have mentioned it, I might just use the industrial type theme as the last world, but I don't know. |

| Use the last 8 colors of the palette, that way you can maintain the palettes of whatever sprites use the first 8. EDIT: Actually, as it turns out, Mega Moles use the same palette as Mario. | YY-CHR has many nifty little features that Lunar Magic doesn't, which is why I often use both. I also use TLP when I want to quickly copy between two different files, but that's about the only time I use it. Don't debunk programs because you don't use them, especially if a lot of other people do. | |||

View the font up close and personal. You can also see the new-ish status bar, which really only has the item box slightly editted (I plan to do more to it later) and some of the fonts have been tinkered with a little bit. |

| Sadly, my hack has been described a couple of times already in this topic, whether by accident or on purpose is irrelevant. Though, the graphics are not the central core of my hack, and it was difficult on accident but I am trying to rectify that in subsequent releases. Anyhoo, to answer the original question, I hack because I find it fun. It's an interesting diversion from the blandness of my real life. I also hack because I know that most people (myself included) enjoy playing new versions of their favorite games. Finally, and this is really only a minor half-thought goal, I intend to raise the average quality of SMW hacks. Too often does some wannabe hacker step in thinking they're making the Best Hack In Existence, only to fail miserably. If more quality hacks are released, hopefully the appearance of horrible hacks will sort of peter out. |

| Make a savestate at the titlescreen and use YY-CHR to load it. But I don't think it's necessary, you get used to viewing tiles in incorrect palettes after a while. | |||

| Blisseh isn't the only one who believes the environment should fit the theme. He's just the most vocal about it. I always attempt to make my graphics Mario-esque (even if I fail sometimes, I still try), and I know other GFX artists are the same. | |||

| For the record, JAMH is my first hack, and I've put a ton of effort into it. All new graphics, new overworld, new everything but sprites. By most accounts, my work is good. Just because he's a new hacker doesn't mean he gets a license for making crap. | |||

Can someone tell me how to change the color in the upper left hand corner? I'm referring to Mario's background, of course. I've looked through the palettes and changed everything that looked like it might be the right palette, and still nothing. Any help is much obliged, as always. PS: At your insistence, I took a filtered screenshot, instead of leaving it in pixel form. In case anyone feels like complaining, don't blame me. |

| In order to take a break from working on levels and tilesets a bit, I decided to go back and fix up any little screwups and such that I didn't notice at first or that I didn't have time to fix. Oh yeah, the screenshots have a filter over them, by popular request. Don't gripe if you don't like filters, it wasn't my decision. PS: These are using the HQ2X filter found in the most recent versions of ZSNES. In case you are a little perplexed about what has been changed here, I went in and made seperate graphics for those corners that don't comprise a naked edge, to remove those unsightly gaps in the middle of objects. If you ask me, it looks tons better. Again, what I have done might not be immediatly obvious. Due to some oversight on my part, I forget to shade the light side of the white parts of the candy canes (a mouthful, I'm sure). This is fixed now. Also, if you for some reason memorized the palettes I have been using, the yellow is now more yellow and the green is a smoother gradient. Minor changes, sure, but the end result is that much better. No graphics have changed in this one, but I switched the arrangement of the chocolate around on the floor to make it appear more natural. As an added bonus (maybe), the areas in the temple where I made this change feel more open. I don't know why, but it feels more natural that way. And finally, the new overworld border. I didn't change much besides the graphics, at least not yet. I might not ever change more, but who knows. Everything else had been changed, so there was no good reason to leave the border untouched. And it's neutral enough not to make the drastic change in mood between the first world and second world from appearing too drastic. Oh yeah, in the level screenshots you can see the pretty much end result of my status bar hacking, unless I can figure out how to change where the dynamic elements occur. Since I'm not an ASM hacker, this doesn't seem likely. ![]() As always, questions and comments are greatly appreciated. I'm not making this hack to please only myself, ya know. |

| Blisseh: I personally think only a couple of letters look wonky (namely the 2 and 5), and work is being done on them to fix them. Expect improvements sometime in the future. Fyxe: Don't worry, the background was next on my list. I haven't been happy with it for a while, but put on hold in favor of other work. And yes, the graphics are simple, cuz hey, they were my first major work. The oil and winter tilesets are both a lot more complicated, and the overall quality didn't change because of it, so simple is not all I can do. PS: 2xSai used to be my favorite, but I don't like how it make some things look fuzzy. It's really noticeable on the status bar. HQ2X is a lot crisper, which is what I like. Everyone else: Thank you! Your praise means a lot to me, really it does. I just hope you aren't disappointed when my next demo is released. I was toying with the idea of releasing a demo with all the graphical overhauls, but there really isn't a point when the levels aren't changing. |

| The cloud graphics are either in GFX00 or 01, I don't remember which. Be wary editting it, though, because the clouds are used for more things than just Lakitu. | |||

| lol @ Squash Monster And assuming that Fu wrote Lunar Magic in C++, which I think he did, it should be relatively simple to port it to Linux. I'm not sure about Macs, though. |
