My own hack is hard as heck, despite steps I have taken to make it easier. The main problem is that even though I could easily play and beat it on the actual hardware (or rough approximations with emulators on current systems) without any fancy schmancy savestates, I have been playing these same levels for years. Not everyone has that kind of time to waste on a simple hack, which is why it is so garsh darn hard. I'm sure every other creator is in the same situation, the evidence pretty much speaks for itself.

Or, ya know, you could always do what da people with da brains do, which is rip from a savestate. That way everything you need is already all decompressed for you.

Note: It's unlikely that the graphics are gonna just pop out when you open a savestate in YY-CHR. First, you gotta make sure you're in the correct graphics mode (4bpp SNES). Second, you've gotta locate where in the savestate the graphcis are actually located. Just scroll until you find the area, it should be immediately obvious. Last, make sure you shift the bits so the pictures line up correctly. The little plus and minus buttons do that.

Personally, I have yet to come across the SNES savestate that I could not rip graphics from. Perhaps if you told us what games you were having difficulty with we could better assist you?

Haha, that looks totally awesome already. I can't wait to see what else you churn out this time around. The only things I have to suggest have been suggested already: make it longer, and a cool overworld would rock the box.

For the record, don't try to fix the tags in your own posts, that only super complicates matters when we're trying to clean up the mess. If you need a mod right away, just PM me or another SMW mod (or if a Full Mod or Admin is the only one on, PM them). I'll probably get to it fairly soon after you send it. I've got no life, you see.

To actually answer the question, now. It's fairly simple to edit the palette, just pull up the demo level (I think it's C7 off the top of my head) and just change the first 8 colors of Mario's palette to whatever you need. It's as simple as that. You can't use anymore than the first 8 colors, which sucks, but until some smart guy comes along and fixes that we're stuck.

To edit the palette, see my latest response in Nad-Gob's topic. To edit the graphics, just pull up GFX00 either in a level or your tile editor of your choice. It should be easy to find the graphics from there, they're right up there near the top.

Just go generic like I did and name it something like "Generic SMW Hack". Then, in an ironic twist, make it so totally ungeneric.

You should let me beta test. After all, I'm going to let you test my hack once I get the second demo put together (I'd say maybe another month, depending on how fast me and da crew can make levels... and, of course, how fast I can make tilesets). Fair's fair.
