Let's try to keep the angry bickering on the downlow, please. If not, my modding finger has been itching recently.

Now then, to clear up at least my own opinion on the matter.

New graphics are not at all a necessity to making a good hack, no matter what the game. I have played and enjoyed level or map hacks only in many different games and genres (SMW included). Having said that, however, new graphics that are done well can enhance the appeal of a hack. Use your own judgment when deciding what you want in your hack.

Also, if your thread isn't getting a lot of replies this is by no means a judgment of your skill as a hacker. Theme and execution are two different things, you can have one without the other. I have had many threads flop with under 10 posts, even if they're completely new content. It happens, big deal.

Last time I checked, the SNES doesn't support rotating anything by 90 degrees (unless of course you're using Mode 7). I could be mistaken, but I know for a fact that SMW doesn't, at least.

ASM isn't JUST for ROMs, it's for any electronic system that uses a CPU. Well, not every system, but every single one that you and I will probably ever use.

You can mimick the Red Piranhas using animated tiles and the animated hurt blocks that are included with Block Inserter. Which really doesn't require any special knowledge besides knowing how to use both of those.

You could just write over the graphics that it is trying to display in each set (or use ExGFX copies with the necessary modifications), but you'll have to sacrifice whatever you're covering up in that level.

The marvelous thing about Lunar Magic is that you can pretty much undo whatever stupid mistake you make. Unless it's a super huge mistake, like loading graphics before the 4bpp graphics hack is inserted.

Not so much weird as easy to do. Just open the title screen level (I believe it's C7 or C5), and set up a palette animation. Just as a heads up, only the first 2 palette rows are used in 2bpp format (which is what the title screen uses).

Look at the location of the yellow boxes in each of these pictures.



The first is the goal sphere. The second is the tiles that goal sphere uses in levels with that tile set. If you wanted all levels to have the goal sphere (with that tileset, anyway), you will need to change the graphics.

Well, you could just copy the 8x8 graphics of the sprite you wanted on Layer 1 into one of the FG graphics files. But... I'm not sure that's what you mean. Please be a little more clear what you want.
