I can't get the frugging thing to work. Someone post a step by step for those of us who are used to starting with a clean rom.

I will Paypal anyone $5 if they can fix the fading bug. You would not believe the amount of crap I have had to switch around in my hack to work within the palettes.

As you can see, I really changed the style of the ground. I smoothed up the shading quite a bit, and now it alternates between the color and white. I really like the effect this creates. I also added some additional shading to the candycanes to give them more depth. The lollipops are pretty much the same, besides an ever so small tweak of the interior shading. And finally, the palettes have been lightened up a little. Let me know what you think.

I have been considering releasing my sets as well. By the time I finish my hack, we'll all be 50 or so. And I'd like to see what other people could do with my sets. Let me know what you think about this, as well.

Yes, you can't edit the last 8 colors of those sprite palettes without enabling a custom palette. Which means, if you want to globablly change the sprite in question, you'll have to slog your way through every stinkin' level you're using.

Sonicandtails: Yes, the status bar is different. I changed it a while ago. I like the new style much better than the old style.

Karadur: I pride myself on the small details, like where blocks meet and interior corners and all that jazz.

Blisseh: A new demo is still a long way off, I'm really struggling with the cake theme and have been considering dropping it (or delegating it to a small sub-world). I'm not sure what you mean about the lollipops, but I have been working on the shading recently and still haven't hit the point I'm trying to reach. Expect more improvements.

The_Raven: I just knew everyone was going to misintepret the title, but that was sorta the point. Sorry guys, I won't tease anymore.

Oddgoo: I've been asked about drawing inspiration from Zool in the past, and I have still yet to play it to see where the connection is. Maybe I'll even get some ideas.

HyperHacker: Part of the 3d effect is a very deliberate use of shading, and I suppose the filter I used for my screenshots (HQ2x) doesn't hurt any, either. PS: Let me know if you find out anything about that email thing, heh.

cpubasic13: What a lot of amateur graphics designers don't realize is that the actual graphics are only one piece of the puzzle. Good palettes also play a part. Don't believe me? Check out some of my early screenshots. And yes, I do make heavy use of the 8x8 editor. Not that I couldn't cram each 16x16 into one palette, but that darned fade out bug keeps me from using each tile's full potential. Actually, the candycanes do use only one palette each, but that's why you'll never see one in the end sequence of a level.

Any other opinions on releasing the set? I'll still be working on my own hack, and slowly refining it as I go along, but like I said earlier, I really would like to see what someone else could do with my work.

Kario: Hmm, recoloring and reshading the coins never occured to me, I'll work on it a bit and see what I get.

Blisseh: Oh, now I see what you're saying. That is actually a concern I had a long time ago, but put on hold for other, more important matters. I only have 3 spare colors per palette (if I remember correctly), but that should be enough to make it a little less obvious.

That's his point, HyperHacker. If the vine is moving down with the rest of the screen, and Mario is stationary, he'll appear to be climbing up the vine (at least in effect, there won't be a climbing animation). You said it yourself, you would need to move in the same direction the vine is to remain stationary in relation to the vine.

I think we're having a fatal misunderstanding here. You cited an example where vines moving on Layer 2 move without Mario. The exact same thing will happen in this scenario. The situation is exactly the same.

A: I hate using the keyboard shortcuts (for the eastereggs, anyway). Starting with a new session of Lunar Magic, open your rom and put in the Chelsea code. Make sure you do this before opening the Overworld editor. If all went according to plan, when you open the OW editor, there should be a bonus menu option under the File menu.

B: The set probably didn't come with those. Which means you'll need to assemble those tilesets in the 16x16 editor yourself. Boring, sure, but it's good practice.

Oh, one thing I thought of (this isn't a bug either, but I would love you forever if you implement it) is the ability to take off those annoying FGx, BG prefixes on the dropdown lists for the Super GFX Bypass. Ya know, like you did for the Objects and Enemy lists.

The reason the backgrounds aren't in the correct color is because all you are inserting into the rom is the raw graphics files, which don't contain any palette information whatsoever. You need to put the palette in yourself, either by importing a savestate or entering the entries manually.

Well, you would need to import the savestate directly into Lunar Magic, because like I said, the ExGFX files will not contain palette information no matter what you do.
