Calling cards are usually used by people who don't want to pay long distance bills or who want to get in touch with friends/family on the road. Basically you buy a card with X amount of money, use the code that's on it with any phone and call people.

Of course, the rates vary - for example, a $10 card could buy me a lot of minutes when calling the United States or Great Britain, but I'll probably not get as much time if I'm calling Lithuania or South Africa.

Kratos: When you get to university and can grab 3 credits with a babyish online computer course, THEN it's useful.

Talk about your random questions.

I wouldn't know. I see concert listings often in the newspapers here but usually "foreign" bands of note get a little write-up or mention since it's a different take on music. Best bet is to check to see if any bands you're interested in have official sites (that are updated) and then check concert listings there.

I don't know about CRAZY...

When I was in college (before university) I had to walk by some drafting studios to head to some of my classes. There were always people in them but it seemed to be a relaxed atmosphere - you know, joking around, doing their work, etc.

I think the college courses would only serve as an intro though - MAYBE they'll have an easier time with their first year of university, but the workload likely becomes a lot harder. Then again, if someone has a natural aptitude in it...

...Geez. Macaroni and cheese on a sandwich... ew... and a french toast one at that...

I'd be more worried about spending the night on the toilet.

(Some spoilers below, I guess.)

Anyone started... erm... playing it yet since the ROM was released? (Yeah, Australia got it first before the States, but it's the US dump... Go figure.)

I've just been playing FF1 so far, but it's like... hm... how can I put it.

FF1 (NES) - Final Fantasy version 1.0
FF1 (PSX - Origins) - Final Fantasy version 1.5
FF1 (GBA - Dawn of Souls) - Final Fantasy version 2.0

The graphics and music are pretty much taken from Origins, but I've noticed a few things from playing...

- Both Gil and EXP are a lot easier to obtain now. I think the EXP thing has to do with the fact that you can go up to Level 99 now, the reason for which becomes PAINFULLY apparent later on. I find this makes the gameplay a little unbalanced... I've had no problems with dying so far, and I just beat Lich in 2 1/2 turns without any difficulty.
- The stores have been changed around - there's a different selection of items in some of them (no more Mythril/Silver Sword in Elfheim! ) and the prices have been changed - most items are cheaper. You'll notice this right away at the start. Magic's cheaper as well.
- Enemies can drop items now. Some bosses can drop stuff but it's not a given. The Bestiary shows who drops what.
- There's more specialty items in the game - for example, I found a White Curtain that casts Blizzara in battle. One-use, of course.
- It's great to see that MP can be used now instead of the D&D "charges" system, but it also makes the game easier. For example, my Black Mage now has 413 MP at Level 30. That means I can cast Fira or Thundara 27 times before having to rest up. Maybe they could have bumped the MP use up a tad.
- Why does my White Mage have considerably more HP than my Monk? If this keeps up she'll have to move to the second slot.
- I think the magic you can use depends on how far you are in the game - I believe my Level 6 magic slot lit up after I defeated Lich. Either it's level or progress-based, but that makes sense considering how magic doesn't have to be squandered now.
- I've seen a lot more 7-8 enemy groups, especially in the Cavern of Earth. Hence multiple castings of Fira.
- Some of the dialogue's been changed from the PSX remake. The dwarves now have funny accents.
- I've only been in the extra Earth Dungeon... OUCH. This is why you'll end up levelling up big time. It was 5 levels and the first 4 really weren't that bad. The enemies were easy and gave a bunch of Gil. I hit the fifth floor and ended up fighting Echinda. First turn, Earthquake, everyone but my Black Mage gets swallowed up and dies. Suffice it to say the fight didn't go on much longer after that, although the good thing is that you just go back to the entrance when you die. Oh... and you can't escape once you enter. Not sure if Exit works. And you can't miss the extra dungeon - the entrance is on your way to the Chaos Temple, and you can enter right after Lich is beaten.

Finally, my stats at the moment (just got the Canoe, heading to Mt. Gulg)

The only thing that's "missing" from the GBA version is the FMV that was in the PSX version. Like I said, you have the extra dungeons and a few extra additions to the game, so it's pretty much the most complete version of FF out there.

Hm... I don't know about the story being fleshed out. There's new dialogue in FF1 but I haven't notice anything earth-shattering.

If you've played the NES/Origins versions, then the only major new addition is the new dungeons along with the gameplay tweaks. Having never made it through FF2, I can't comment on the additions there - I think they added a new section for the GBA version to flesh out the storyline.

It's still a good game though. And the extra bosses in FF1 - if my recent battles are any suggestion - should give you a challenge.

Hiryuu: Well at least something jogged your memory.

Re: Getting Drunk: Considering I had a *CLASS* at 6 PM - and a *HARD AS HELL* midterm to boot, I don't think I had the time nor the motivation to even go out for a drink. Sad, but that's when the midterm fell. Would have liked to have done something, but there's always "belated" stuff.

There's already a thread in Craziness pour moi.

The real notables on this day have always been Weasel and I, but the former... well... is doing good for the world. I think.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories comes out on the 7th. Based on what I've been reading, that might be worth going out of your way to pick up.
