Planned date for submissions to end: Unknown as of now.

Yes, the sprites don't have to do with anything Mario as long as they can be placed into the game.

Keikonium: Actually, it isn't a different height. That is just one of the frames for the walking. It is the same for the other, but one pixel lower.

Atma X's sprites: SMRPGish. I can tell you didn't rip it. I believe the SMRPG plant is more detailed compared to this one. The Mario is cool, though. Same with the Boo.

Krato's sprites: Best Boo sprites out there as of now. Different yet similar to the original SMW ones, which is good.

The_Raven's sprites: Nice work, but can you insert them in SMW with no problems?

We need more sprites here! I could submit some more, but I would like to see more submissions.

Tuesday, 7:00 PM. I decide to tackle the Pit of 100 Trials. I have only done up to floor 10 just to see what it was like the first time I got to it, but then this time I actually was ready to continue.

I made it to floor 90 with no trouble. I thought for a second... should I leave and save, or continue? I thought I could handle it, so I continued.

Floor 92... that battle killed half my characters for some weird reason... don't know why... switched to Koops for the rest of the pit.

Floor 100. I made it. I was so happy... until...
Spoiler:
...the boss of the pit. He used a flame breath that put both Mario and Koops to sleep. Mario woke up and I was hoping to get some star points, but the stupid Dayzee put the crowd to sleep! Dead... dead... 3 hours... gone down the pit...

I need to quit thinking I am good...

Uhm, to be acurate, only the Piranha was based off of SMRPG. The Ghost Sprite and Mario were both something that came completely out of my head.

I meant the plants... nothing else.

A replacement of the mole. Best used with KATW's sky tileset.

Whoa! Watch the flames people. Using a base is good to learn to draw better, but just don't take the image and change one pixel. I used Yoshi's Island as a base and look what I did with the foreground (yes, it isn't a sprite, but this is to clearly make a point).

See? Using the same texturing pattern as YI, I made that tileset. It isn't a rip as you can clearly see. So, when making a sprite, basing it off of another game is good as long as it is just based, not completly ripped.

And please, if someone sees a rip, say what game it is from so everyone can clearly see they are rips. Makes things a whole lot easier and also makes sure nobody is accusing someone of rips if it isn't a rip.

I need to make another sprite. Something creative and such...

It has been a while since I last battled in an arena. Shall we say a few months it has been? Either way, learning new skills and obtaining some cooler weapons, William, formerly known as Cpubasic, stands in an arena... an old arena of sorts. Pillars were fallen and the ones that were standing looked ready to fall over. Half of the seats were gone due to erosion and collapsing ground. Outside of the back end of the arena was a cliff. The primary reason why the arena was built on a cliff was unknown, but posed a competitive place to battle.

William walks over in the middle of the arena. A sword lays on a pedastool. He picks it up.
"The memories I have with this sword, the Black Thorn." The sword he used to battle with still looked new, with its bright-orange blade and black thorns sticking out of it. He takes the sword and swings it two times. He then puts it in its seath and starts to leave the arena. William was right at the exit when he stopped. He turned around. "What now?" He pulls out his sword and prepares for battle.

(Off Topic: I may not post here frequently, mainly for dial-up and having a job, but I will try to battle as much as possible. Don't be impatient.)

88: When using ExGFX of your own, add decoration to it. Don't just make a ground. Add trees or brush or bones or something to give it more originality.

89: Layer Priority is a great effect to pull off to make Mario go behind a wall or something. You could make a secret exit with that.

90: Sprites can be as weird or as realistic as possible and it still wouldn't matter. This is a game featuring a plumber who eats mushrooms and rides dinosaurs, so making walking eyeballs with legs or a Gamecube with jet engines is alright.

91: Animation is a great way to add originality to a hack. What is even more original is animation with the sprites. Try it out.

92: Palette animation can be used to make awesome effects with stuff like computer terminals or light dimming. Use it.

William, sword drawn and ready for battle, takes a step forward. He starts running at full speed towards this mysterious figure. In front of the enemy he does a simple slash. "Take this!" The sword slashes through the air at this figure, moving faster than a normal sword due to good aerodynamics.

(info thanks to Smallhacker and BMF)

--Status bar and it's DMA tables (by BMF)--
The status bar data starts at $0E81 (the top of the blue item box). Note that there's no break between each line of data;
the second line starts immediately after the first. Also note that *only* tiles and/or blank spaces that are actually used are copied to layer 3
(meaning each row is only as long as it appears in-game). Expanding a row of tiles is somewhat tricky, involving modifications to a few
DMA tables and copying the tile data elsewhere in the ROM. The DMA tables start at $0F90 if you want to play around with this yourself.
Even this is somewhat limited at the moment, since the game still references the original data somewhere (I haven't found the pointer)
and tends to screw up the status bar if the new and old data don't match.

The format of a DMA table is as follows (using the first one at $0F90 as an example):

01: Enables normal DMA. Don't change this.
18: Low byte of register to be written to (high byte is always $21). Don't change this.
81 8C 00: 24-bit SNES address of data to be copied. This can point anywhere in the ROM.
08: Number of bytes to copy. Make sure you change this if you expand the status bar at all!
00: End of table.

--Tile settings byte (by Smallhacker)--
Each tile is made up of 2 bytes.
Byte 1: Tile number (the same as in the tile select window in the credits/title screen editor)
Byte 2: Tile settings:

1 Flip |
2 Flip -

Finally beat the final boss. Nice battle actually. Used two Shooting Stars and a Life Shroom. Not hard once you have a strategy... and a good Bob-omb named Bobbery. He is really good with his attacks.

Ummm... remove The Joe Adventure. I... uhh... well... lost it... stupid computer... stupid spyware... stupid formatting... it deleted everything in my folder with a gig of stuff without warning... I saved some stuff, but not all of it... and The Joe Adventure was one of the unsavable...

First off, put in SMW Odyssey. Second, if anyone wants to, put in my hack Yoshi's New Isle up for most promising hack for 2005. That is if people think it deserves it of course...

Got it on day 1. And I really haven't gotten far... for some weird reason... possibly work and school and stuff... but...

This is a good game, nevertheless. I would really like to try out the multiplayer part of this game, but since nobody else near me has one...

The Joe Adventure... well... uhh... dissappeared... in fact, most of my stuff was gone in one day thinks to spyware and stuff... and I scanned for spyware everyday...

Anyway, I decided to make another hack and this time, back up even more often (I backed up The Joe Adventure, but somehow the only thing I could find is the Joe sprite... and only him being small...). I don't know the name or story for this hack... except for the fact Mario starts off in some rocky area... and stuff... uhhh... screenies...

Beginning of level 1.

A bridge...

New Thwimp graphics...

Almost to the midway point.

Suggestions? Questions? Comments? Critisism?

Hmmm... rounding off the edges could work... *tries it* Looks better, but I have to now rework some things... some objects look like they are floating.

None of the spikes point up. I made it to do that. Looks different that way.

The thwimp is some sort of rock, yes... don't know why...

Different shades of brown... hmmm... *tries it* Can't come up with a good rock palette... the bridge uses the same palette as the rocks and such and messing with the palettes messes up the bridges terribly. Unless someone doesn't mind giving out a good palette that works for both the bridges and the rocks, I am afraid I will have to keep the palette... for now.

The column does look weird... I might just remove it from the ground... or make it a grass column...

I will post more screenshots as they become available... which means me taking a screenshot, which I am right now too lazy to do...

As for floppy disks... they suck. They suck big time. In fact, they screw up my mom and dad's computer for some reason. I will, however, try to send unlocked copies to friends... maybe...

(Sorry for the wait... computer got formatted and ISP wouldn't install...)

"I am William... obviously. And you seem to be the one that doesn't take a threat too carefully. Well, I am one you should look out for."

William pulls out what seems to be two guns, jumps into the air, and shoots. Instead of shooting bullets, these guns shot boomerangs so sharp, they can cut through any material at the right velocity. William landed on one of the pillars as the boomerangs made their way towards Hector. William waited for an attack.

Posted on 11-27-04 08:40 AM, in NEW KIRBY GAME FOR GAMECUBE!!! AHH!!!! Link
*cheers*

ITS ABOUT TIME! I have been waiting for a better 3D Kirby game for too long. I have yet to be dissappointed with a single Kirby game yet (I have been playing Kirby since his debut on the Game Boy), and this will not be an exception... unless they make the story around the Kirby show. *shudders at the thought*

They better not make the story like that of the show. The show is... not Kirby. Kirby should be fighting Whispy and Meta-Knight, not be friends with them...

Multi-player will hopefully be good. Either co-op or maybe even battle mode (mmmmm... battle mode...).

As for the graphics, they are not ultra-relistic or incredibly detailed, but this is a Kirby game, therefore, graphics should remain as simple as possible.

Oh, and if you want a cell-shaded Kirby, play SSBM and copy G&W. Just imagine him pink.
...well, if they do use the same model as Air Ride, they are using the same model from SSBM...

Hmmm... adding some red... hmmm...

Rounded edges and a slightly reddish color.

Now I would make it grey, but this isn't stone. Just some rocks...

EDIT: Should I make the bridge a different palette?

97: For making graphics, just draw and see what you just did. Since there really should be more un-realistic stuff, draw and texture whatever. You could make some really nice tileset that hasn't been done before...

98: Grass is not always pure green. In fact, the unedited SMW has some sort of teal-green color to it for the darker color. Give some sort of tint for more originality.

99: Use a tile editor for making sprites, not LM's built-in editor. You can see the entire sprite in a tile editor (well... most sprites...) thus you can see the sprite clearly.

Hmmm... uhhh... 2nd screen: You need to set the special effects correctly (possible layer 3, too, but I am not sure). Look at 1-6's special effects and set it to that and see if it works.

.bmps are evil. Please try to make it .gif or .png, if possible.

As for the text edits... they are simple, yes... but I would recommend not using the symbols. It kind of makes it look weird...

As for the 3rd screenshot... uhhh... ground-pound and get the mole... now if you made the sand blocks above the bubble those blocks that change colors when you hit them with an egg, then it wouldn't be so easy to avoid the Shy-Guys... but that is my opinion...

It is nice. You could keep the crossbar. Just make some new tiles for where the crossbar would be and everyone could choose whether or not to put in the crossbar. It could be useful in some cases.

It is very Christmasy (I know it isn't a real word) and would suit a very good snow themed area. Good work.

Oh, and the style of shading you use is one of the more... simpler ways of shading, but you are the only person who can do it real well. Good work with that.
