Difficulty is a major issue. Most people like to make a really hard hack. But thing is... we're playing SMW, not Halo on Ledgendary mode (or some comparison). If you have to use a savestate to get passed your level, redo it.

People use the SMAS graphics too much. Sure, it was a remake of the classic NES games, but that was it! Nothing more than a graphics change. Don't use them.

Then there is the fun factor. We play SMW for one reason: it was fun. Sure it was easy, but it was still fun. You can make the easiest hack ever and it could still be fun... somewhat...

I kind of messed up my Cpubasic's Land hack (edited some offset which I don't remember and it won't work anymore), so now here is another hack I have started.

I couldn't think of a name, so I decided to go with Basic Land (somewhat suggested by Kario).

This hack has (so far):

-New handmade graphics (very few rips and ExGFX workshop graphics)
-Start out with 3 lives instead of 5 (Weasel's "Convert them codes!" document)
-Not save-statingly difficult
-New level design...

The title screen movement hasn't been edited yet (too lazy to do it right now...). There are a few bugs... nothing critical. Although that overworld border is driving me crazy!

Let's see... I've got my doc about the locations on my old computer... I can see if I can find them tomorrow... (If you know how to edit status bars, then it's good, since it uses the same format)


I just want to get rid of that transparency on the border. I am already planning on changing the border, but the border has transparency even though I didn't edit any of the pallettes yet...

I might like that document...

Well, I am neutral...

I think LM is what we needed because it is really good in seeing what you are doing. The GUI is also easy to use. It also edits the overworld the best. It is a pain to do it in the first place...

The bad thing... people think that "OMG! I AM TEH BEZT SUPA MAREO WOLD HACKZER! FEER MIE SKILZ!" And it doesn't help that these people like to use rips from SMAS. Sure Fu used it, but it was an example hack. You have some examples to look at to see what Lunar Magic (and a little ASM) can do. But of course it isn't Fu's fault for making the program... it was adding a link to here that caused these newbies to post crappy hacks...

I am not voting for this reason...

I only use Rex in the first level... and it wasn't changed... yet...
The enemies you see are:

4th screen: A goomba.
5th screen: Koopa.
6th screen: Ninji.
7th screen: Spike Top.
8th screen: Thwimp.
9th screen: Mole.

There is a problem with my nmlbg ExGFX. You aren't downloading what you see... you are downloading my beta version... somehow... I have to fix it as the Map16 and graphics are weird... I will fix it as soon as possible and resubmit the graphics to Coby. Thanks to Toadeeboy for telling me this.

Arathorn21st: I think I should fix that P-switch thing... maybe make a secondary way up or to go back up the pipe you came out of...
Castles have never been my favorite level types to build... same with the water levels. I just hate water levels...
I know the line guides are hard to see from the background, but the paths are really easy to follow and to me doesn't affect the gameplay.
And I won't get bogged down with graphics. I will use some over again, but not a whole lot.

I fixed the border. Turns out the middle of my "S" and the middle of my "I" affect the overworld border. This has been fixed and will be in the next demo (might be 3 worlds... but possibly 4).

1. Delete your exits.
2. Place one exit.
3. Place other exit without unselecting other exit.
4. Open up the Exit Tile menu (no unselecting anything).
5. The drop down box should be already selected with stuff. Remember it.
Example:

6. Go to the other exit and put the same things in the drop down menus except in reverse.
7. Set the exit tile thing (bottom, top, left, or right).

I only had to do that with one exit so far in my hack because the Yellow Switch Palace exit (it is a climbing exit instead of a bridge exit...).
Hope this helps...

Speaking of help... read the help file. It might explain better.

I used that so-called editor and it just doesn't do anything. You make a level, you test it with a crappy interface, etc...

It isn't LM's fault for the crappy hacks. It is the person behind the hacks who did it. Sure, some of the newbies start out with a really crappy hack (My first hack was Mario's Fun Levels and I didn't like the fact I didn't know how to edit the graphics). Soon they make an even better hack that makes people play it. Look at chris' hack. The one demo he released was really crappy... actually crap... but now if you look at it, it looks a whole lot better. It is just about learning the interface and features to make a good hack.

Of course, if you don't like these newbies, you can always beg Fu to remove the link to these fourms on his site. That is how people usually come here.

But what about some sprite ExGFX? This is an ExGFX Workshop and there are no sprite ExGFX yet. I think I know a format we could submit them in, too.

For Sprite ExGFX:
Tell exactly what GFX file to replace (SP1, 2, 3 or 4).
After that, have an 8x8 pic.
Then describe all enemies that are used (if you changed Pokey, put Pokey on the list).

That would work... maybe...

And since you are a newbie, I will tell you something: when you insert ExGFX, you are not going to be able to use the original graphics for that level. The graphics are still there, but you can't use them for the same level.

Confusing myself... anyway...

Worst hack... well... everyone named almost all of them. I can't say my first hack was terrible... because people actually enjoyed it. But anyway... Wario's hacks do suck. Although I was quite amused with the glitches that came up.

The layout idea would be cool. And you could possibly add a button next to the graphics set so then you can then see the pictures (sort of like BMF's site). That would definitnley increase speed since most of us already have almost all the ExGFX downloaded.

And Tetris level... sounds very cool.

For sorting... how about sort by number of downloads? That way people can see what ExGFX are downloaded more than the others... or would that be too much?

Medium. You don't want to overuse them, but you could use some in some places. But people should learn to make ExGFX that would apply to a custom block, such as a cracked block or a block with Mario's face with a big X on it. Be creative with the blocks, don't just use the X spot in GFX14 to use for all the blocks, just in different colors.
