"Doof-Doof Boy" is my brother. He's moved in with me, and he's been there two weeks. He sub-leases under me, so technically I am his landlord and he is my tenant. He plays music that can only really be desribed as "doof doof". I think technically it's "dance" or "trance" or "hardcore" or something. I don't know, it's all "doof doof" to me. The doof doof starts from the moment he gets home and doesn't stop until 10.30pm when I finally snap and threaten to kill him with whatever kitchen implement I am holding at the time (last night it was a potato peeler). Now, I don't want to be the kind of landlord that is a bitch, nor do I want to be a bitchy sister, but -- how can I get him to be more considerate when it comes to his goddamned doof doof!? Last night I had a headache and so eventually I gave him headphones and let him blast his ears out with that. I could still hear the bass from the other end of the house, but it was a lot better than when he does it at the usual volume all night. What do you guys suggest? |

Have you tried asking him to crank the volume down? You are his landlord, therefore you have (Or at least you SHOULD have) legal rights to kick him out of he is being disruptive/rowdy/etc... Remind him of that, in the way of your choosing... just make sure you still get your point across, and not sound like the worst person in the world. If he wants to act like that, he can go somewhere else. Thats all I really have to say. I dont like what someone is doing, I tell them. |

Oh, I've already told him to quote "turn that down, willya?!" a few times. I've also told him that under NO circumstances is he to be noisy at all after 10.30 as he lives with people who have to be up early. |

Boy, this does remind me so much about the sister I live together. Just replace that music with constant pop music and... Well, a last solution would be giving him some portable media device. So he could at least keep the "Doof-Doof" for himself. But then, if he does have such high volumes even when wearing headphones that you could hear the "Doof-Doof" from the other side of the house... this boy will wind up having Tinnitus. You could try to threat him that he could get Tinnitus... |

Why not re-new his contract so that he can't have high volumes of music in the house? You might not want to be a bitchy landlord, but even the nice ones include that in their contracts Landlords get far, far worse than you, Taryn Alternatively, find the power switch in your house. Cut the power every night at 10:30 |

Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer I loaned Doof-Doof Boy my iPod last night. It kept him amused for the whole thirty minutes it took for him to exhaust my collection of songs he likes. But yeah, maybe investing in some really good headphones might encourage him to listen to this stuff a little more quietly.... he can blast the hell out of his ears, I can watch TV or sleep. |
