Well, wasn't there already a movie? Althought that one didn't have good special effects and such and was made on a much tighter budget...

Maybe it's one of thoose trailers that shows the best scenes or something.

There was a show. Not a movie.

Now there's a movie.

No, that's a discussion of the film overall - this is just about the trailer. We'd have right around 80% less threads on the board if we applied similar policies everywhere.

On the subject of the trailer: I don't like it.

The earlier trailer, with "What a wonderful world" and the explosion, and the "Don't panic"... that seemed to fit the book well.

This one looks like another "wacky"-type American comedy. It looks more like a movie adapting the story of the book, rather than a movie adaptation of the book itself. I don't know if that makes any sense.

A non-permanent one, yes.

Let's not get into adaptation. The book was nothing like the radio show in a lot of major ways (there's no definite answer to where Milliways is, for example). I think Douglas said once that it's an adaptation of the essence of the Hitchhiker's Guide. The wacky humor, the spirit, really crazy chains of events. It's good in one version for radio, in another version for books, a third version for TVs and yet another one for films with the appropriate effects. I think Douglas would have liked it, and although the trailer isn't designed to hook *me*, I think it'll do a great job of hooking the people who would have never gone to see it otherwise - which is the whole point of trailers.

True.

I think the humor in the trailer looks very different from the humor in the book, and I don't like it very much, whether or not it was intended to be that way. Maybe the trailer is very unrepresentative of the actual movie, which is the case with a lot of trailers. I hope so. Because I honestly don't like the look of the trailer at all.

The trailer's there to make people think that this is worth paying ten bucks for. The movie's there to tell a story. It's impossible to make an accurate portrayal of any movie with a trailer unless the movie is just one thing (say, fighting) all the way.

I find the humor very much like the book - it starts out like it. It's a bit more slapstick, but that may be because the book contains so much textual slapstick - "He shook his hand, calmly at first, but then more violently, as if it might turn out to be a fish."

This trailer looks awesome. Is it only me or does those squareshaped ships look like borg cubes?

This looks like a new Independence Day movie.

Oh wait, it's from a show. Yeah.

I just hope the movie isn't as the trailer shows thought, now it's little too much American comedy and uhh... that wouldn't fit too well. Thought then I think the trailer is to amaze the masses, not the fans of the book who will watch it anyway.
