| Got a call from a good friend last night. He said he best friend's girlfriend was coming to town, and would be here quite a bit before he'd be down. I was asked to entertain her for the time being (five hours). I said "...okay, I suppose I could." So...yeah. Never met this gal before. She's nice...a pretty young lady. M' friend's best friend (a friend of mine, nonetheless) picked well. But it was still...odd. I mean, I do find it a bit strange that it wasn't her, or her boyfriend, who asked me to entertain until he arrived. It wasn't a problem. It was just a bit, well, weird. We decided on getting dinner. She was by no means picky, and I love Mexican food to a fault. So...we headed towards the best Mexican in Athens. Waited to be talked to, waited...got to watch a party of 14 be seated...finally a waitress spoke to us. And she was pissed. I just asked about being seated, and she asked if we had given our name rather impateintly. I was a bit confused, and know I looked it. She said I needed give her m' name, and that there was a 45-minute wait. We decided to try somewhere else. Next closest place is the Diner. Decorated to look like a 50's diner, complete with the interior decorations of the 50's. It's all good...only 8:30 on a Friday night. Walk up, grabbed the door, it's locked. Locked...early, the weekend before all the students come back. Why? So we crossed the stressed for the SubWay...it was dark. 8:30 on a Friday, and this stuff is closed? We then tried Jimmy John's (very good subs...in case this is strictly around college campuses). Interesting chat over dinner, about God, where we've been and what we believe. After that, we walked around for a bit, and I showed her around OU. Nothing too spiffy. So...I get back from doing all that, to where I'm staying for spring break: at a different friend's place. His girlfriend was on the couch on the porch, 'cuz the door was locked and he hadn't got back yet. So...here I went again. Except this time, it was about 15 minutes, instead of several hours. So it wasn't so bad. It's not that the whole thing makes me upset...it just makes me go  .You guys had similar experiences? |
