OOC: This is a direct challenge to Grey. Use any character of yours that you choose. (The thread title may be a little misleading; you don't HAVE to use Detective Grey...) Normal rules.

You wanted a battle against Tuxydon? Come an' get it! You're a very good writer, as am I, and I expect this to be a remembered battle; a clash of the elites, if you know what I mean. Good luck.

"TSEEEEEROW!!"
"Gotcha."

The sound came instantly after the razor-sharp bolt of ice struck the Pheonix's heart. The Pheonix was literally knocked out of the sky and caught on a gold fire as it plummeted into the underbrush below. Tuxydon, ex-Oracle and skilled Pheonix-hunter, dashed ahead to meet the Pheonix before it crashed. The trick was, a Pheonix can NOT die, but it can be dead for a moment. Being a Pheonix hunter, Tuxydon knew he would only have a very short time to gather it's wing and crest before it turned into ash and be reborn in another time and place. Being a pretty darn good hunter, he would've hoped to be by the Pheonix before that happened. He knew he could make an insane amount of gold selling a Pheonix Crown and a Pheonix Ring; the former was known to give high attack power in battle and the latter was known to up the fire resistance of the wielder. That was his employment; he sold these two artifacts to merchants and shopkeepers. That is how he put bread on his table, and he was proud of himself for finding an employment he was so good at so early in his mortal life. Kyr'Shei would definitely be proud of him, he thought.

Tuxydon was a tan-skinned man with no shirt so others could see his muscular build; he wore a towel around his neck, and his lower tunic was jet-black. He carried throwing knives on his belt and a mystic crossbow on his back that was able to launch an unlimited supply of razor ice-bolts. In his belt were also found an assortment of other weapons, not to mention a peculiar knife that, when viewed from the side, looked like a shark's maw.

Tuxydon raced through the semi-forest (a forest that wasn't very dense, basically), following the blazing streak of the dying Pheonix that plummeted to an unknown location ahead of him. In front of him was a small ledge that dropped into a narrow rocky creek. He leaped across the ledge and landed, but his foot twisted the wrong way as he did so and was brought down hard. Though shocked, he was unhurt and able to get up quickly, but as he did so his eye caught that of a shadowy figure standing about 20 feet away, slightly valed by the small bushes in front of the figure.

For now he was completely sidetracked, losing the goal of chasing the Pheonix and now occupied by whoever it was watching him.
"Who are you?" he started. "Are you watching me or what? Speak up I say!"

OOC: Whew... Guess I just can't help making long intros.

Kalar: "Relax, Tuxydon, it's just me. No danger. Not yet, anyway."

The tattered young man's metal arm shifted gears slightly as he brushed the branches of a few shrubberies aside...

"Of course, in your case, "Me" would be a stranger, no matter who I was."

Tuxydon would have found the man to be very familiar looking. Something about Kalar's attire was most likely to raise memories of days long past in the hunter. It was only natural: Men wearing black suits and sunglasses tend to have that effect. Kalar, however, had nowhere near the clean, neat appearance of a White Light agent, and good thing, too, because he had no clue at all who they were. If he had, he probably wouldn't have cared, anyway.

Converse to Tuxdon's woodland appearance, Kalar was thoroughly technological: His right arm and leg were made entirely of mechanical parts, having lost them in a struggle several years ago. On his back lay a scythe, with a blade almost clear, the handle of which revealed to be another strange mechanical device, presumably a weapon of some sort. His shoes, which Tuxydon would instinctively believe to be top-notch and made of the finest Italian leather, were in fact beat-up, scuffed, and scratched beyond recognition. It was almost as though Kalar were the polar opposite of the men that would come to Tuxydon's mind.

"In any case, I'm not here to hurt you. The name's Kalar. Just Kalar, that's all you need to know right now."

His attitude was considerably out of proportion with his apparent ability to beat people up, but despite the physical weakness, there was an odd look about his eyes, one that would throw off anyone willing to stare at them for more than a few seconds. He was clearly insane, yet at the same time fully aware of his thoughts...

Tuxydon watches the man for a moment, when suddenly in the distance, the sound of a gas explosion is heard.

"Oh f---! The Pheonix! I forgot!"

He starts to run, but he knows it's hopeless to catch up with the fallen Pheonix at this point. By the time he'd get there, it would be ash and nothing but. Tuxydon quits running and drops to his knees. "No! No no no no..."

He then suddenly turns on the part-mechanical stranger. "You-- you clockwork coward! You did that on purpose! Sidetracking a hunter like this..." He immediately draws his crossbow off his back and fires into Kalar's chest. Immediately a razor-sharp ice-shard with ridged edges forms inside the crossbow and is flung like an arrow at Kalar.

The rage lasted only for a moment, as Tuxydon sits down and covers his face, trying to calm down. This character, known now to Kalar, does NOT like, nor can deal with, faliures. Probably unknown to Kalar, this is Day 3 of his mortal life, and he is not used to the fact that life is filled with both wins and losses.

That still doesn't change the fact that an ice shard is on it's way to Kalar...

The moment Tuxydon draws his bow, the scythe on Kalar's back is off and windmilling like a helicopter blade, knocking the arrow away and into a tree, which nearly explodes in a burst of ice. A splitsecond later, the scythe is no longer a scythe, but a chung-ryodo (sp?), a long handle with a halberd-like blade sticking longways out of the end. A second after that, the handle shortens to hand size, as a basketed hilt extends from it and a thin blade is formed where the halberd had once been, a rapier. Still another instant later, the scythe is back on Kalar's back.

Kalar: "Calm down, now! I'm not here to get myself killed, or--"

At this, he looks at the ice-covered tree next to him.

"--frozen solid, for that matter. Just meeting with the natives. Though, you don't really seem to be a native. Are you alright?"

He stepped towards Tuxydon, gears shifting and metal clanking with his steps. Kalar's gaze was piercing, but sympathetic; his eyes, though young, had seen more than the average person his age would see.

Tuxydon gets up and glares at Kalar. "I'm not happy for what you did... I was hunting a Pheonix with this crossbow," he holds the crossbow up for Kalar to examine, "and I felled it. You can't kill a Pheonix. When it dies, it turns to ash a minute later and is reborn some other place. My profession is Pheonix hunting; I make Pheonix Crowns and rings to sell, and I tell you, they sell for a LOT.

"I'm upset because Pheonix are incredibly rare; I usually find one once a week. I just felled one, I was chasing it's aerial trail to intercept it to get it's crown before it became ash... And what happened? I look over and somebody's WATCHING me! I can't have that, so I went and confronted you... and I forgot all about the Pheonix.

"You distracted me! You shouldn't be here right now! What business do you have with me? Speak up or I'll fight you!"

Tuxydon is a man of honor, but he is also an outcast. His colliding feelings sometimes grieve him, making him a bit more edgy sometimes...

Kalar nervously puts his hands up and laughs a bit, shutting his eyes and trying to appear as non threatening as possible.

Kalar: "Hey now, I can decide where I want to be or not, right? If it means that much to you, I'll help you find a phoenix to hunt again. They can't be that hard to find, especially if it's impossible for one of them to die!"

He points out to the woods, and a grin begins to spread across his face.

"I've got an idea. If you feel the need to compete that badly, let's have a little contest: First one to find a phoenix wins. And to top it off, if I find a phoenix and manage to take it down, I'll hand over the parts you need. All you have to do is show me what parts need to be found and I can guarantee you I'll make do. What do you say?"

"I say forget that second part," Tuxydon coldly states. "If you felled a Pheonix from the air, you'd have to get to it's landing point BEFORE it landed there. You also have to cut the fallen Pheonix's feathers in exactly the right way or they combust.

"You know, this stuff is all very expertise... You have to be a pretty darn good hunter to supply yourself with Pheonix items directly from the target. I don't know yet how I'm so good... I was like, born with the skills of a hunter." He turns away. "I wonder how Yiusi is doing right now? She seemed like a very weak Oracle, but something tells me by the end of her lifetime, she'll be an expert warrior. Me too, I think. I hope."

Tuxydon turns back to Kalar. "Okay... I'm sorry. I'm sorry for this outburst I had. I feel a little calmer now. I needed some time to think. I can't take you up on your offer just yet..." He holds his crossbow upright, in a way that could not fire to show he does not mean harm. "Now do me a favor... Show me just... how that deflective attack worked again. You know, with the spear thingy." He aims the crossbow towards Kalar, not firing yet as he wants permission first.

OOC: Oh yeah... Grey, have I got a battle in store for you.

OOC: I can hardly wait. Sorry it took so long to reply, I've never used Kalar outside the SF...

Kalar removed the scythe from his back and held it aloft in his mechanical hand. It was heavy, but his steel arm could easily support the weight as opposed to his real one. Prosthetics, though horrible reminders of a terrifying past, can come in handy.

Kalar: "Well, it's not really a spear... It's pretty much whatever I need it to be. It's called a Multiweapon, customized for use by yours truly. It's mainly defensive, though. I'm not a fan of hurting people, hence the strangeness. Still, a spear..."

The Multiweapon's scythe blade straightened, and slided upward, growing a little wider and rounder until it formed a parrying spear that rested in both of Kalar's hands. He windmilled it rapidly several times, and held it in front of him before Tuxydon's face.

"Heh, I'm not sure I'll be able to do something like that again, though. You're welcome to try, but I don't really want to get hurt, and you seem like a pretty good shot."

Kalar windmilled again, rapidly spinning his spear around himself, as the ice shard flew ever closer, and in an instant it was all over!

Kalar: "Ha, how'd you like... That?"

His metal arm, held out in front of him as the spear was situated behind, wrapped in his real arm, was covered in ice. He brought it closer to himself, and tapped it a few times with the head of his spear. The hand and forearm shattered, as though they were submerged in liquid nitrogen. Kalar looked slightly sheepish, and reached inside his ragged suit jacket, hitting a button on his shoulder. The connector piece for the arm disconnected at the elbow, and from his jacket Kalar somehow managed to produce a second arm, a replacement.

He attached this arm to the connector slot, hit the button on his shoulder again, and watched his arm spring to life. Flexing it a few times, he threw a thumbs-up at Tuxydon.

OOC: Nice, but... the ice-shard doesn't tend to FREEZE things, mostly cut them. They're used against Pheonix to penetrate the firey hide. For future reference.

By now, Tuxydon is wigged. "That's freaky... TOO freaky..."

He closes his eyes for a moment, then suddenly takes out a throwing knife from his belt. He holds it in front of him and it bursts into a firey shell. "What kind of freak can remove his arm and replace it just like that!!?"

Tuxydon hasn't always been tolerant of severe differences... He's only been around for 3 days (EVER, to be honest), and, well... he's losing it.

"No way. That's just... That has to go. Take this!"

As if out of control, Tuxydon chucks the flaming knife perfectly at Kalar. Who knows where it may hit, though...

Kalar's steel leg fires upward, kicking the knife high into the sky, only to have it land on the ground, quivering, several seconds later...

Kalar: "Oh, it's not that freaky... Look, I can do it with my leg, too!"

And with that, he slams a fist into his thigh, as the knee connector for his artificial leg pops loose. He then does something extremely odd, and replaces his leg with his arm, and his arm with his leg!

"Now THIS is freaky... I like to do it once in a while to creep people out!"

Judging by the look on Tuxydon's face, Kalar suddenly realizes he may have gone a bit too far, and replaces his limbs to their proper positions...

OOC:

Too late. It had already affected Tuxydon to Kalar's desired extent...

"Noooooooo!!! Die, I say!"

All sense of self-control lost, Tuxydon charges forward and tries a crushing downward blow with black ether-coated fists to Kalar's torso. But how does Tuxydon know Psi, the spiritual power only Psi Warriors can use? Tuxydon once inhabited Schwa's body, and while there, he took the time to learn some of his techniques by heart. He offered to give them up after converting to Good, but Sensae told him he'd need them.

Tuxydon's melee ether attacks are WAY stronger than Schwa's... 40% stronger, in fact. However, he can't use the instant speed blinks like Schwa can, making his effectiveness not as high as Schwa's. Still... ya wouldn't want to be hit by his melee attack. Not ever.

After delivering the first blow, Tuxydon attempts a combo (only works if Attack One didn't miss) with a crushing elbow jab in the head, no ether in play but still pretty strong.

Kalar: "HaHA!"

The insane fellow catches Tuxydon's wrist in his metal hand, but is knocked flat by the elbow jab to the head! He windmills upward, and instantly the scythe is off his back, as Kalar does a quick backflip, slashing upward and leaving an afterimage of the scythe's near-transparent blade!

After Tuxydon nailed Kalar with the elbow, he had time to draw his prime weapon before Kalar struck back-- a peculiar knife that, when viewed from the side, looks like the mouth of a shark. Basically it's a knife with two blades, one "tooth" (a small scythe) and a larger, curved scythe behind that one. Tuxydon uses this knife to cut the Pheonix wings off after he's fallen them, but it also has another unique use... in battle...

Tuxydon holds the knife downward to catch the scythe, and he tries to land the scythe's blade inside the "maw" of his shark-knife. He fails, though, having a hard time tracking the transparent weapon of his opponent, and the scythe glances off Tuxydon's weapon. This, though, causes the weapon to fly out of Tuxydon's hand.

He looks backward and eyes the knife on the ground behind him. In 3 seconds, he tries a tactic to get it back. Quickly he draws some kind of curved item from his belt and unfolds it; it's a razor-sharp Boomerang!

He deftly throws the Blade Boomerang at Kalar and it heads toward his neck. If the attack misses, it'll curve around and reach his back 7 seconds later. Tuxydon draws a second Boomerang in case needed, as he runs backward to pick up his shark-knife.

"Why did you even GO there!!?"

Kalar: "Go where?"

In the time it takes to dodge-roll forward and beneath the boomerang's first blow, Kalar has changed his weapon again: the scythe blade is more curved now, and has detached from the main shaft, which has shortened into a small weight and is attached to the blade by a chain, concealed within the weapon's previous shaft!

With a flick of his wrist, he sends the blade flying past Tuxydon, attempting to ensnare him in the chain. At the same time, he rolls himself forward (to give the chain an amount of tension to come wrapping around Tuxydon), pulling the chain around himself. If all goes right, the end result will be that the two of them are tied together by the chain, more or less face to face, as the boomerang heads back to slice both of their heads off...

Kalar grins at Tuxydon, and seeing his eyes closer than ever suggests that he is in an extremely wrong presence of mind at this point.

3 seconds would have been the amount of time it took for the Blade Boomerang to cut them both off. But 2 seconds later, Tuxydon had managed the impossible...

"HIIYAAA!!"

His whole body is engulfed in a split-second flume of black ether as he thrusts his arms outward, breaking the chain and throwing Kalar off of him. He then deftly lifts his hand to catch the Boomerang before it cuts anyone. It was a split-second burst of strength that saved him, as well as the ability to catch a spinning, razor-sharp object without error... (Of course, he's always managed to catch his own Boomerang without letting it cut him.)

"You know what I mean! You did-- THAT-- with your arms and legs! And now you're trying to kill us both! Damn, do you know what Schwa would say right about now? Probably something like 'You are dishonorable!' " The voice to go with that quote sounded hilarious coming from this guy. "And I'd agree with him. You are acting like a half-mad, half-insane maniac! And I intend to stop you!"

Tuxydon now picks up the knife on the ground next to him, the one he'd been trying to get to before. It looks scary when threatened with. "Nothing your weapon can do compares to the beauty of this knife," Tuxydon warns. He steps forward in an offensive stance.

Tuxydon would probably want to dodge the blade-on-a-chain that got sent toward his chest while he was saying "Nothing your weapon can do compares to the beauty of this knife"...

OOC: Wait a moment, didn't I just break the chain? Ah well...

As he's speaking and as the attack moves toward him, he hooks the knife around the base of the blade to catch the weapon, then he strongly jerks the knife backward to throw the ensnared weapon out of Kalar's hands (assuming the ensnare worked).

That... is the weapon's special ability.

OOC: Eeek, didn't notice this... Or that.

The problem with jerking a weapon out of someone's hands is that the thing you want to jerk it out with has to be attached to the weapon. Since Tuxydon broke the chain, there wasn't anything for him to jerk.

Nevertheless, Kalar was stumped. His weapon currently had been reduced to a stick with a bit of chain on it, and now he had to go through the trouble of finding the pointy end of it. He wiggled the broken part a few times, and watched the chain rattle in an almost infantile way. Then, shrugging, he turned toward Tuxydon, raised the stick above his head, and ran toward him, ready to whack him in the head with it!

Kalar: "Gyaaaaaaaa!!!!"
