That's because you're downloading IPS patches. I thought there was a sticky thread dealing with how to apply them, but it's not there now, that I can see If the file's zipped (it'll most likely have a .zip extenstion on it), unzip it with WinZip, or another program that does that sort of thing. I personally use Lunar IPS, which you can find here. If you choose to use that, open the program, click 'Apply IPS Patch', select the IPS patch you want to apply, then select the ROM you want to apply the IPS to. After that, you can open the ROM in an emulator and it should work If it makes it easier, there's also this small, graphical tutorial on how to apply patches. That was for SNES ones, but it should work for any ROM type. (edited by Karadur on 02-10-05 01:06 AM) |

Originally posted by KaradurAh, yes. That thread was created by me, but someone unstickied it. May I ask why? I created it to avoid threads like this, but since it's unstickied again, they're coming back. At least, someone could update the announcement and link to it. But it's up to you, not me... The thread isn't deleted, you can still find the turorial here. |

It was probably unstickied because the forum announcement has the exact same information.

Oh, the link I posted was a forum announcement. Somehow I thought it was a sticky. ;( But yeah, there you have it. |

Bingo Dan. There were lots of sticky threads and they needed to be cleared up, and the forum announcement had the same info, so I figured no need to repeat what has been said before.

Yeah, but the announcement doesn't deal with how to apply them.

It does, actually. It makes it perfectly clear that you should use Lunar IPS. And if you open Lunar IPS at least one time, everything is rather self-explanatory. I doubt anyone will need a tutorial that tells them how to push the button named "Apply IPS Patch".

You don't even have to do that, as the first time you run Lunar IPS it registers the IPS file extension, so all you have to do is double-click the IPS in Windows Explorer, and select the ROM file you want to patch. I don't think it gets any easier than that. |
