how would I set up a FTP server (one of my bro's wanted me to find out)?

you need

1) a computer to run on
2) some type of internet connection -- broadband is preferrable
3) know your IP address (static IP is better than dynamic IP)
4) software that will manage the FTP

The key part of the server is the software that monitors the port in which people connect to server. As for what software, it seems you wil have to pay for the software. I found a list here

Pretty damn good client, too.

FileZilla is a nice server for Windows, but it's still incomplete. I'd have to say that the best server for FTP is ProFTPd, I'm sure there's a port to Windows (non-Cygwin), but I can't find it.

Unfortunately, this is illegal if you use comcast's internet service.

I'll tell ya all things step by step, what you need to do.
1. Get a good FTP Tool, I prefer FlashFXP. It's a trial but the best IMO.
2. Know your IP or the host where the files should be uploaded on.
3. Set permissions: FlashFXP does this for you, but if you have another program, which can't do that automatically then use "ASCII Mode" for files and "Binary Mode" for images.
4. Upload them and have fun!

If you need help, just ask.

Sure you can, where do you get that idea?

It's like saying that you need a Web browser to set up a Web server. You don't.
