*Alexa picks the invisible "I use it, only because several other people use it"

Really, AIM (as long as you use something besides it, like GAIM or Trillian or whatever) is > MSN.

MSN has shitty text formatting. You can't bold certain words, you can only style the entire sentence

Not to mention the chatwindow:

SomeMoronWithAreallySuperLongName says:
what up
SomeMoronWithAreallySuperLongName says:
*whatss
SomeMoronWithAreallySuperLongName says:
*whats
AnotherMoronWithAreallySuperLongName says:
not much

The lack of timestamps and logging kill it

It's horrible and I hate it. AIM is way better. (On a mostly unrelated note, AOL is also >>> MSN)

Honestly, it is the best one. Most options, user friendly, you arent stuck with one screenname. AIM is honestly the worse one of all. Takes up space, stupid ads, uses up memory. Yahoo is better than AIM. I just use AIM because everyone else does.

I'm using Trillian, so it's a matter of I do because others have it. Quite honestly, the MSN contacts that I have only span a tenth (if that) of my entire listing via mediums. AIM well surpasses the rest.

I have Trillian, so I registered for it because its on there. I like Yahoo Messenger the best, because most of my friends have it.

MSN is alright. I've always used MSN through trillian so I do not get the real MSN experience but yeah. There are certain features of MSN that are cool (like aliasing) but other than that, I'm more of an AIM person

I prefer MSN over AIM, AIM seems so old and... god the folder is just named AIM95.

I use Trillian for AIM, ICQ and YIM. So far I only have one on YIM... and most people on AIM.

But I do talk the most throughout MSN, since my best friends both on the board and people I met "IRL" are there.

So far, I like the MSN the most. And trillian after that, althought if there is a fourth messenger that seems awesome, I would gladly try that one. I'm not going to be stuck with MSN whatever it happens, being too faithful is never good when it comes to software...

I need an option for 'Used to, but don't now' If that isn't already self-explanatory, I used to use it, but I started noticing I was opening it less and less frequently, and finally stopped with it completely.

I also went to the trouble of finding some way to uninstall Windows Messenger (it came preinstalled on this computer), to free up the bit of space it was using. I still communicate electronically through boards such as this one, and by email, but I don't use any instant-messenger programs

Overall though, my vote would be for 'Nay'. There's certainly better things out there that can do pretty much the same thing

I use the protocol so that I can speak to a handful of individuals; but I do not use the client.

I use either Adium, Trillian or MirandaIM.

I rarely use MSN, there are so many things about it I can't stand. Plus most everyone I talk to uses AIM. There are a few that I can't speak to outside of MSN, but it's really not worth it. This was my attitude before I recently upgraded my mac OS, so now I am able to use multiclient chats such as Adium.. so I may go back to it.

I hate AIM, I hate Yahoo Messenger, and I pretty much hate MSN. But, since I don't have Trillian on either online computer - and due to paranoid relatives, I won't have it on either online computer - I'm stuck using MSN.

Well, there's a difference between the service and the program. Either way, it still kinda blows. I use it with Trillian, so the program's great, just, the packets it sends doesn't contain data for different words being italicized, etc.

AIM > all (if matched with Trill, like Xk said).

Yea, its okay. Its the only chat program that I will have on all the time and usually have the people on it that I would like to talk to, even when I don't want to chat with anyone one.

I use gaim. The last AIM client I'll use from AOL is v5.2. I really dont' like the new features of AIM tha has come after 5.2. AIM is now so bloated too. I don't like using memory mods such as DeadAIM.

Gaim has multi client capabilities but I don't use them. I have trillian but I don't like trillian's habit of not syncing to the AIM buddy list though. Also, I don't think trillian has unicode support? I dunno, I've never tried typing Japanese with it...

MSN is much more beriable to use via aMSN, which solves the timestamp+logging problem that Xkeeper has. But I hate the protocol anyway... MSN servers suck, the nick thing is worse than IRC (but I alias everyone so I don't see that junk)...

I normally use AIM, which is better, but I think Jabber is the best.
