Somehow, I can intercept some radio feedback (eg, plains, cop cars, etc) via my speakers! How did THIS happen? I can still hear my music and such.

Probably getting some nearby radio (most likely airport radio tower) interference...I mean if you ever look at the FCC reg stuff on the back of most equipment like that...it's susceptable to taking interference from any outside source.

And what kind of 'radio' are we talking here...because there are certain radios that do just that.

Modern electronics can interference with each other yes.

Everyone probably have heared the classical mobile phone interference.

Heck, electronic interferencing can actually be an problem. Especially when there is sensitive equipment

Yeah, I used to have a little synthesizer that picked up a Christian radio station through its speakers. Creeped me out, randomly hearing "AND GOD WILL STRIKE UPON THEE" right before I'd turn it off.

I've never had this happen to me, but I guess it would be somewhat spooky if it did

But one thing about my speakers is that they act like magnets if I move them too close to the screen (they cause color distortion) ... yet they don't attract anything

One time I was taking apart an old tape player and noticed I could pick up radio signals in it. All it really takes is a moveable or flimsy piece of metal bent into the right shape or cut to the right size.

Never had it happen to me. But your speakers shouldn't be picking up that kind of signal anyway, how could this happen?

All it means is that somewhere between your pc and speakers the cable is picking up RFI (radio frequence interference). Nothing gets damaged, but it gets annoying after a while.

I will always remember in the middle of a gig I was doing sound for, it was a concert at college, and the Principal was giving a speech before the last band came on, and somewhere in my system was an unsheilded cable. JUST before he started talking, the system started relaying a taxi drivers radio: "Where the f**king hell is this f**king place, you stupid c**tf**k!" I've never seen a bald man blush so much that his HEAD went red! God I was so embarrassed.

Back to the thread, all computer equipment iirc, is by law (unless theres some exception, like audio stuff) made to accept any and all RFI. Usually you can't hear the interference, as its really really quiet, but sometimes it peaks, and you get a blast of radio.

Harmless, don't worry

Oh I see, is that also the static sound Windows makes? Turn up the volume to the max, disable sounds and maximize/minimize a screen and such, Windows'll give of static sounds.

There's no way I'm going to stop laughing now. Thanks for making my day.

And no, I haven't heard messages from other devices through interference. Just the distortion, like cell phone buzz.
