i have now ripped all of the GFX from mario all-stars and i have started my next few hacks: a remake of smb1, smb lost levels, smb2 and smb3. These games are gonna be almost identical to those on SMAS. Oh, and one other thing: when i release them, i'm gonna leave them unlocked...

First off, get a provider where to host your images. I recommend Photobucket.
Second, take a screenshot. If you are using ZSNES, press F1 and select "save image as" or something like that. On Snes9x, press the Print Screen button at the top right of your keyboard ("Druck" on German keyboards, if it helps you), start a drawing program (I recommend Paintbrush) and press Ctrl-V, then save the picture somewhere on your HD.
Third, log in at photobucket and upload the file.
Fourth, pick the IMG tag from Photobucket's gallery.
Fifth, insert the line here and you're done.

okay here's some screenshots from smb1. i haven't given the other games much work yet so these are all i can show.


Mario's GFX are changed, and the Q blocks are animated.


The castle is back and i've given part of the castle layer priority so it looks like he enters it after this shot!


The coins are animated.i haven't gotten round to changin the sprite GFX yet but the goombas are now ''squishable''!


The waterfall in the background is animated.




Thanks to the teleport block, mario exits to the bonus area when he reaches the top of the beanstalk.

I'm planning to change all the sprite GFX, change the status bar, and put some clouds in the sky.

I think i know what most of you will be thinking now: ''if i want to play this, i'll just use the original.'' but remember-i'm leaving these roms unlocked so you'll be able to make a hack of SMB1 (or SMBTLL, SMB2 or SMB3) with good GFX, or if ya like, just steal all the GFX for your own hack. More screenshots real soon.

Oh God, you forgot to mention NOT to use BMPs for screenshots. PNG would be good in this case. Anyway what's the idea here? You're turning it into SMB1 with better graphics, and then you're gonna let people hack that? Awesome, but unless you manage to get SMB music in somehow, it won't really be 'complete'...


Not bad, BG looks great, status bar colours are too close to the BG colour though. I love the new Mario graphics, even if they are just ripped from SMAS.


WTF is with the black in the BG? Also the hill and bush look weird, and once again the status bar (and "course clear" text) are badly coloured.


More status bar problems. The graphics look good but the SMW-style Koopa doesn't really fit in. Needs to be more 3Dish.


Again with the Koopas and status bar. The giant mushrooms/trees/whatever the hell those things are look good, but I think I see some holes near the bottom of the green part.


Status bar sucks, rest is awesome.


Same here, might want to change the Goomba's graphics a bit though. He does look better than the Koopas but still out of place.

i forgot to mention! there is SMB1 music in it (which includes w1-1, w1-2, w1-4 and w2-2 music) Thanks Bouche!
as i said, i'm gonna change the status bar and the sprites. the thing with the castle and the BG: the screen goes dark every time a level is complete, everyone knows that.

Those screens look quite good. Aside from the status bar problems, everything is looking good. I don't see too many rips from SMB1 in All-Stars, so I enjoy seeing those graphics, and your Mario rip seems perfect. However, since this is a remake, it'd be nice to see some new levels also. Maybe after world 8, or a bonus world. I don't know if you already planned this, but I do hope to see some new levels as well. What are you doing with the overworld, since there was none in SMB?

no, i don't plan on putting any new levels in the game. i'm saving my cutom levels for Mario_ac which is packed with YI GFX, and by the way, of the 5 games i'm making, Mario_ac is the only one i'm locking. i might release a demo of it soon.

in SMB1, i'm gonna use the overworld from SMB Deluxe.
I should release the full game sometime next week.

SMB TLL shouldn't be more than a week after SMB1, since it's basically the same game.

SMB3 is gonna take a while, but it shouldn't be too difficult to make.

SMB2? whoo now that's gonna be hard! it's nothin like the other games, loads of new blocks, and it's the only one i still don't have the music for. but unless i somehow miraculously make it before Feb. 15, i think Blackhole89'll be able to me out!

The reason the background isn't fading out completely is because SMW only fades the first 8 colors of each BG palette; obviously, the offending objects are using colors 8-F. There aren't any easy ways around that problem, unfortunately...do you maybe have some unused palettes you could remap those tiles to?

Wow, I'm pleasently surprised! I was expecting this to be some sort of vaporware project.

Looks good, except for the little pallete glitches. I'll be interested to see how the Spin Jump and various other SMW eccentricities work out in the SMB1 enviroment.

i've changed the GFX all the sprites now ie mushroom, flower, star, goomba, cheep cheep, koopa troopa and the pirhana plant to make them look just like they did in SMASSMB1. i think there's still a few left.

The status bar is under construction.

I've sorted out the problem with the fading screen at the end out the level.

and i have 2 questions: is there a way of removing the spin jump? and is there a way of removing the option to pick up a shell?

I think you have to use a Hex Editor or ASM for it.
But I think you can set it in Mario World Reconfigurator to not pick up a shell.
I'm not sure though.

I am looking forward to this. I have a question though, how are you handling the SMB water levels? They did have animated water and multiple layers, I believe. Did you manage to get the water levels to look like SMB?

The water's surface is animated. and no, it's not just the one from SMW, i had to make it myself. it's identical to that in SMASSMB1.


And those green/blue seaweed things in the BG are animated too.

I'm very impressed, this is looking very promising. I really wish you would make some new levels also, it would be a nice addition to the original SMB levels, but this is your hack, so you choose what to do .

Wow! Looks really awesome Peter. First off lemme just say that the hack itself looks really cool. Reminds me of my Lost Islands hack. (Only Gfx from Smb3 mainly though). All your screens look very nice actually. But of course the status bar, that has to be changed. (As already mentioned in this thread so far).

The screens that mainly surprised me were the ones when he's underwater. You've really worked hard on this hack though. Keep up the great work.
