You only replied to me, the easy way out, seeing as VN's post totally utterly pwnz0red j00.

But seriously, why do you consider them animals? I was just being sarcastic.

And I was hoping he'd at least try to counter my arguments, which would help me refine them for future opponents.

Most of my arguments were in refutation of things he said (along with a separate post in which I myself took the initiative). If he (or anyone else) cannot offer a refutation, then that means his arguments have failed, mine stand, and my side therefore stands victorious.

geeogree (or anyone who takes his side): the only thing to do now is either refute my arguments or concede to them. To further ignore me will constitute the latter.

A false, blatant stereotype of this magnitude just screams ignorance on your part. Unless I totally misinterpretted that.

But you just gave me the impression that your idea of a homosexual is the "flaming" gay man or the "butch" lesbian. If that's not what you meant... then please clarify... but I can't comprehend what else you would mean by you disagreeing with "how they act".

Well, he doesn't have to like their lifestyle or how some of them act; it's not relevant to the issue of whether or not they should be able to attain civil marriage.

In fact, your post is somewhat of an ad-hominem attack. However, it could serve to illustrate to him some misconceptions, and learning of them could make him at least reconsider his position.

Assuming he pays attention, of course.

Yeah, I have to ask there... do you mean you disagree with two men getting it on with each other, or just the fact that they're commonly liberal/smart.

I think they're out to get us, personally. They have an agenda, and want to turn this around; more rights for gays, less for us straight people.

This is war!!!

You can disagree with a man sticking his tool up another man, but why try and make a sign of their love open to the world illega?

And why would you want the thread closed unless you knew you were right? ;o

geeogree: You have failed to refute any of my arguments; you have failed to even respond to them; you have even failed to so much as acknowledge them. And you have had ample opportunity to do so.

Instead, you blatantly avoid my arguments and offer weak, nitpicky responses and ad-hominem attacks at smaller posts that are more assailable (and similarly weak).

Nothing you have said has gone unrefuted by me or my peers. Everything I have said has gone unrefuted by you.

I hereby declare myself, and those on whose side I joined this debate, victorious in this debate, and you (and those who have registered their support for you in this thread... which, it seems, there are none!) likewise defeated.

If only the real-world issue of same-sex civil marriage were so easily attainable as this thread has been, let alone other issues! Our civilization might be considerably more advanced by now, and/or might advance much more rapidly in the future. Instead, as easily as the position and arguments of an incompetent debater are assailed, to accomplish the same against the masses of people who cling so tenaciously to their collective security blankets of "that's just the way it's always been" is no trivial task. If only it were!

Those things said, unless a moderator or administrator sees fit to close this thread, geeogree's original post and all subsequent posts have been defeated, but the debate in general does not end, in which case I invite anyone who wishes to refute my arguments, or the arguments of my peers, to step forward and do so.

And I'll be glad to engage you head-on.

Y'know, there's a LOT of us gblt (gay/bi/lesbian/transsexual) peeps who abhor the whole "gay pride" movement and would just rather live normal quiet live. Except for the fact that they are gay. I personally HATE the gay pride thing, it forces undue attention on my friends and I, and the community as a whole are subjected to hate (like seen in the thread) and hate crimes (beatings, rapings and quite often murder) for something that we CANNOT control. Do you think I asked to be born into a boys body, but have the mindset of a female? Do you think I enjoy it?

You mention quite a lot that YOUR religion doesn't allow you to see the term and meaning of the WORD (yes folks, its a word. only that. nothing more) marriage altered to fit my fellow bretheren's needs. I don't believe in god, I've been brought up catholic, but recent experiences have led me to believe that the church is used as a brainwashing tool (lets keep the debate on track and not deviate ). And you, geeogree are a prime example of social conditioning from a scrict regime of religion. But because it goes against YOUR religion, does that mean I have to give up any rights to next of kin/inheritance/etc? It is MY beliefs that people were more open minded and religion didn't play so much of a part in politics as it does. But you don't see me waving a banner around advertising that fact do you? No, because I respect other peoples beliefs and actions. Why can't you? After all, thats supposedly what christianity is all about, is it not?

EDIT: I'd like to thank Vystrix Nexoth for defending the gblt community and for everyone elses openmindedness about things. and stuff

As a side comment, I was just musing over how paradoxical it is that children are bombarded with messages like "Keep an open mind," and "Don't judge a book by its cover," and yet adults are endlessly trying to restrict and place boundaries on society using (truly) arbitrary parameters.

if you all want to claim an online discussion between me and I don't know how many people a victory, then so be it.... I was overmatched..... 5-10 on 1 isn't very fair.... but that's not the point...

I haven't had time or cared enough to sit down and argue back against many of you.... the little bit I have done wasn't done as well as it could have been either....

take this as you will.... it doesn't change the situation either way.... it is probably going to happen in Canada.... and won't for at least 4 years in the US....

You had time to respond to my posts; why not VN, instead?

And it isn't the amount defending something; it's what you're defending.
