I found some good codes for Final Fantasy 3 at GScentral.com but when entered (namely learn spells faster and level 99 in one battle) they don't work, I entered then and double checked them and nothing

Although you are bad for calling it FF3, I know you are talking about FF6. Anyway, the codes are odd. There's a few different versions of the game floating around, and the codes didn't always work for me either. Not all of the "get item codes" work either, although one of them does.

1: When it's not working, are you getting the experience, but not gaining the levels? If yes, then you need more in your group. If no, then try a lower code, like one that gives 16,000 exp a battle.
2: The learning faster might not be working because the monsters aren't giving any MP. Try fighting different monsters. (Although, you probably did that already.) The first monster that will actually give MP is in the desert near Castle Figaro. Although, maybe the Dark Winds do too...

That help any?

Why is it bad to call a game by the name under which it was released in America? Most people refer to the proper FF3 as FF3j anyways.

FF3us is not FF3; it's FF6 released under a different name to hide the fact that not all the FF games were released here.

Besides, it was eventually released here as FF6 in Final Fantasy Anthology.

The SNES game was released over in America as Final Fantasy 3. It's marked in GoodSNES as Final Fantasy 3. Hence, my initial point is valid.

It's bad because it's confusing. It's like someone saying "FF2" when they mean the FF2 portion of DoS. Sure on some level it's right... but it's silly.

FF3j or FF3us is more specific. But without the country suffix, it's assumed (by most people in the rom-hacking world) to be the original, first FF3: FF3j.

Regardless that my SNES cartridge says "Final Fantasy III" I still call it "Final Fantasy VI", and same goes for IV.

It pissed me off when people don't realize this. I finally proved this fact to one of my friends when I let him borrow my copy of Final Fantasy Anthology, and whoa! That's not FFIII, it says FFVI!

It is confusing when people don't use "j" or "us" though.

True, but in the universal sense, calling it 3 is asking for nerds shooting at you from every possible angle. Call it 6 to be safe.

True, and considering how the re-release got stuck with the 6 tag...

Just remember that they wanted to try fool us into thinking we weren't missing FF games.

I don't think it was so much more fooling than what was released over here. It'd be kinda weird, since they released FF here...and then have the release FF4 here under that name (instead of 2) for all to go 'wtf?' at.

At least in this day and age, you can do that, because we have the grander things of communication, such as Internet.

Well for those who don't understand, simply look at it this way.

You have "FFIII" for the SNES.

Then "FFVII" for the PSX.

Sound a little funny?

Well, it took GamePro for me to figure out that we were getting really screwed over back in the day.

They were TRYING to maintain continuity but it bit them in the butt in the end.

Like I said, internet. By then there were 56Ks and ISDNs and high speeders started coming out and information and boards started to become big along with AOL IM.

Thanks A LOT NINTENDO! *cough* Hmmmm, where's my train wreck? Hmm, no train wreck... Bad mods and staff going off topic when it goes against their own rules...

Any luck with the codes yet Chibi?

Erm, I remember in Nintendo Power itself it said that we didn't get FFV, and explained the name confusion. That was a looooooooooong time ago. But, since not everyone read Nintendo Power. All I'm saying is that the information was out there before the internet got hot.

It must be some stupid nerd thing to assume that when someone is talking about FF3 they mean FF3j. Most normal people when referring to the american SNES version would call it FF3, after the title it was given when it was released.

Oh well, you can't win them all.

And the term "hacking" has a different meaning to those normal people too... but in the emulation and rom-hacking worlds, terms get used a little differently. Most people take FF3 to mean FF3j, since that was the original FF3.

I tested just the 16000 exp after battle code, no go, it doesn't work

I'm suspecting the rom might have something to do with it

Oh, the information was out there for people who read certain magazines. Absolutely. (EGM used to be exxxxxxcellent with showing a bunch of Japanese stuff we never had a chance of seeing.)

I think as soon as FF3 comes out for the DS, we can finally do away with the FF3/j referencing.
