I saw this on slashdot.

So what's next? Arresting users for using a insecure browser? xD

Then, there is people who don't see the diffrence between a command prompt and a hacking program.

(and sure, it could have been a real hacking attempt through Lynx, but I doubt it...)

Are they considering that donating money via Lynx is hacking, now?

Cmd, *cough*.

As mentioned on Slashdot though, there's nothing to really back this up.

It seems pretty silly to me, would like to hear something that backs this up or not though....

What the hell...a donation ends up as a hacking attempt based on non-standard browsing? Yea, I definitely find this a bit hard to swallow, but if it is true, that's a laugh.

Yeah, an article in a respected publication would be nice.

No, the Sun does NOT count.

Sad thing is, this *should* be shot down in court right away but you can never be sure. :\

1. I've never heard of boingboing.com.
2. The style of writing in this article is not exactly one I would associate with the truth.
3. Very few details.

I would definitely say this is a fake.

Except that it's a completely different case because downloading copyrighted music is ILLEGAL.

Different argument. The point is, the morality and legality of downloading music is in contention. Using Lynx to donate money is not.

Now we just need to get IE criminalized.

Seriously, wtf? I don't really believe it. "Not identifying itself and doing strange things"? It still has to send standard HTTP headers, why would they be any different than any other browser's?

I've read the Lynx source. Unless he's using an old version, Lynx does all the standard things like sending a user agent string (identifying itself) and it doesn't do strange things.

You will now be arrested for using AOL. Goodbye!

This won't go very long and is more or less pointless...

They'll probably just examine his computer and that will be the end of that.

AOL didn't succed in Sweden, probably becuse we aren't as dumb.

But the browsers do identify themself thought, maybe he thought "WTF, that browser dosen't exist" or something. You never know how a few inexperinced admins are when it comes to reading the logs.

Lynx is useful in command line only enviroments. And when people abuse DIV tags on a message board...

Links is better. It's based on Lynx, but looks better.
