| I think it was about time that I posted. Tom, I'm sorry. I stand by what I said but the fact remains that you're not as around as much as you have been. I said all I can, and that was "I'd welcome him back if he came back". That for the most part is true. I really hoped no-one would single my comments out because I really do believe that what I say or do make very little difference in the world, but that night I had to make sure I was as impartial as possible (despite "funny" comments here and there  ).You're still the oldest friend I've had at this board, and without dragging out all the angst, try to read that post from my point of view. I really hoped you could stick around the board without all the shit that comes with staff and make something out of it. Making these decisions was hard. I take pride in the board is mostly a very friendly affair and very little of the work on staff involves being so impartial, but the reshuffle was one of those things. I really hoped that the logs wouldn't be brought into question publicly because I enjoy being seen as someone friendly, approachable and light hearted. | I can summarize the conversation between Jiz and me, we agreed that it's basically a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation in the end, so it really doesn't matter how it was handled. Sure, it wasn't handled ideally, but if we all worried about defending everything we do, we'd never get any sleep xD Even though I'm in no position to do so, I at least apologize to Tom for how this all turned out. Tom, I know you think that you were treated unfairly, and we *all* agree with you, since true fairness is impossible. What went on through all this may seem like a big conspiracy to cull the staff, but you know what? There's a lot to be said towards the value of efficient decision-making, and this decision-making was definitely efficient. Sure, in the process of culling, some people would be understandably hurt. And sure, proper precautions against this weren't taken, and that was most likely a mistake. But at the end of the day, all that's left are apologies, and those will have to suffice. Please don't have any more hard feelings about this, even though you're justified in having them. We're all still friends, and that's much better than how things could have ended up, we should just put this behind us and move on xD (Note for those of you who don't know who the hell I am: I'm friends with, um, some people here. | I apologize that Yiffy Kitten (or anyone else for that matter) was treated unfairly, but as Krel said, true fairness is impossible. And we all know this board, It's bound to get emotional when things like these happen. But they do. We just have to try and get on. And I hope we can do that. It's not a deathblow into the board, but rather, that things can happen. It's not always talk and talk in staff. For once, we had a proper discussion which we agreed in. I'm happy about that. I'm sorry however that people take this personally. It was never intended to be. We did not base any decisions on how much we hate someone, or how much they suck. I have nothing against Yarx, nor Yiffy Kitten, nor Phil, not anyone, and even if I would've, that wouldn't have influenced any desicions. If someone doesn't use their position, they don't really need it. Doesn't mean we respect them less. We might still even be friends with them, great friends even. Take for example Jesper, if he would've been on 100 posts or been missing for several months, I would still bring him up for discussion about possible demotion, but it does not in any way mean that I think less of him, he'd still be a friend of mine. | FuSoYa's post average on the old board: 1.4 posts per day. (During the old board's period; I based these calculations on 723 days (1023 - 300).) FuSoYa's post average on the new board: 0.44 posts per day. (For ten months.) When it comes to post activity, we have to look at three points of interest. Activity for the latest two years (since the last reconstruction, if I'm not mistaken), for the latest quarter and for the latest month. FuSoYa has kept up a level of -constant- activity that's unseen in any local mod - most local mods from the old board just a year ago don't even have their spots anymore - and that may be why we're giving him less trouble, even though he's undoubtably been declining and gone more or less AWOL recently. There's also the idea that Yiffy Kitten has far more 'regular' forums. I don't even know him that well, and I can still off-hand mention General Chat, Craziness Domain, Sports (I guess, for racing), Hardware/Software, and then of course the appropriate staff forums. So this is a more noticeable decline in terms of that. If we were to err on something, this would probably be it. It's also worth pointing out that an admin spot requires infinitely more activity and attention than a local mod spot does. And, as was mentioned, I'm starting to worry if Yiffy Kitten's demotion to nil wasn't more than a bit drastic, although I have to say I'm not entirely happy with how Yiffy Kitten has been handling it either. |

| As more or less stated, there is no democracy in a message board and virtually impossible (as least as it comes to usual communities, also this applies to that *unique* board). On the other side, doing a local or higher mod job is just a waste of time mostly. You don't earn any money or respect (mostly; depends on the community too). You might apply for the next job with "I was a local moderator on board xyz, plz take me, I'm skilled in leadership and make good decisions!!!11oneon") Not everyone might be that active. As also said, you might not post in thirty days, but you might close twenty threads without any comment. As for me, I'm staffed somewhere else and I rarely close a thread without a finishing post (or at least inserting a "Edit by Surlent:< For FuSoYa, there apply similar roles like for Acmlm (although Ace simply works more, and this is just normal to value job over that board - and I'm NOT smooth-talking since I'm here since '02  )He did create Lunar Magic and lurks more than he posts. Also BMF is more active. If he closes a thread, FuSoYa doesn't need to close same thread again. Of cousre there are more level editor creators, but there simply IS a SMW Hacking forum. Concerning the post counter, I'll show an example. This won't be any advertisement, so I'll show a small image only (and that I won't to show off something, also made a link): My partner has something about 4xx posts, is well educated and running the forum good while I have something about 5xxx (don't really care about that post counter, but I'm there since '01).
