Bumped by indirect request.

it is doublesized, but the pixels are oddly designed. Looks more than it, but it is doublesized. Go figure.

Essentially it's a giant 'Spike', an enemy that first appeared in SMB3 and is in the regular rankset on the board.

And the regular spike don't have thoose wierd ears, but then Mario&Luigi is in another country after all. And Mario games that are in other countries in the mushroom world usually do have odd enemies *cough*SML*cough*.

Do'h, I guess I was just little tired. Besides I do remember him using them ingame somehow so... then I hadn't played Mario & Luigi for weeks. I think my other sister have it somewhere. I wonder where she have hidden it.

Are you discriminating against a monster's ability to learn? Pah.

Vee haff more monsters. These ones are particularly cool.

Too bad they're antialiased to look good on a real GBA (or on a similarly-colored background)

Since I have layouts off and the BG is purple, there's a white halo around all of them =/

oh well

Can't 'elp that. High resolutions or light backgrounds pretty much solve it but there's no real easy way to fix it otherwise.

I'm not entirely sure why the sprites in the game are like that.

Accents suck.

Anyway, they're like that to look 'smoother', obviously. Look less like the hard black outlined sprites of waaaaay back then.

Good on screen, bad offsreen.

Everyone has an accent.

Well, I suppose it makes them vaguely smoother in-game.

I suppose I could try making versions with the 'halo' filled in with just the black background.. That might look ok. I'll give it a shot with the Goomba.

EDIT: Ok, here's three Goombas...

The original, a version where the 'halo' is filled in, and another where it's completely removed. What looks best? Try my layout background too to see if any of them look good on both a dark and light background.

Best would be having partial transparency, althought GIF dosen't support that. MNG does. Then it would look good against any backround. And it would take little more work to get the transparancy working...

Besides, there isn't so many tools supporting MNG. :/

(and GIF is little restricted, either a pixel is fully transparent or not... :/)

I like the third one the most.

MNG? What's that, and how compatible is it? Explain...

MNG.

I just replied to a PM you sent to me, but I guess I could post it here for everyone to see too.

MNG is... great. If just not supported much. I think the next version of Firefox implents it, but i'm not sure. And not sure about Opera. :/

With some luck IE7 could support it, but they promised full PNg support since IE4 so I hardly belive it will happen. At least there is MNG plugins for all browsers...
