Story, in turn ganked from Slashdot. Seven year deal.

So Ziff, how come when EA lands exclusive rights to teams and players from a sport it's "OMG WTF EA R TEH EVUL LIEK MIRCO$OFT!1!1 AND WILL TAEK OVER EVERYTHING", yet you completely ignore this, which is the same thing in a different sport?

Discuss.

Um, it's ... EA? Maybe?

I'm pretty sure I've heard of this, but I wouldn't say it's as big as a deal as the NFL purchase, since from my guess NFL games rack up better sales than Baseball sports games.

Take-Two doesn't have the same business practises and there have been no recent labour complaints about that company. EA is about 10 times bigger in scope of operations. It has a larger funding base for these sorts of things, and MLB isn't as big a license as NFL.

OMG YOU FUCKING RETARD. U RLIEK A BLOWJOB MORN1!!!!!!!

It's a good marketing move from Take-Two's standpoint BECAUSE:

1) It's a third-party exclusive deal, meaning that Nintendo, Sony and MS are able to use the MLB license for their own games if they so choose;
2) It's a good shot back at EA. A lot of people do prefer EA's baseball games over Take-Two's, but if EA's going to take a huge piece of the pie with football, you have to take what you can get. It's not a HUGE license, but it was likely a pretty substantial deal and it's not like Visual Concepts DON'T know how to make a baseball game.

I can see Nintendo going after the MLB license again unless they can get a commitment from Take-Two regarding the Revolution. Sony uses it anyways so that's not a problem - in fact, PS users get 2 choices.

Sega no long is in the publishing biz, and has sold off Kush to Take-Two. That means that less money will be directly behind the games.

Uhh...yeah...I liked EA's baseball series, MVP Baseball. It was an excellent product.

I liked Sega's football games, but EA's were on par if not better, so there's a difference for me anyways.

Damn, I'm good.

Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball (great name!) will be released on April 4, with full MLB/MLBPA licenses. It's being done by Exile Interactive, who were the ones behind World Series Baseball 2K3. Pretty surprising, although one would suspect the game's been in development for a while.
