Key Cancer Gene Discovered

I've heard that we'll have a cure for cancer within my lifetime, but I didn't know it could be this soon. Considering cancer is now the #1 cause of death in America for people under a certain age (it just passed heart disease), this is a major development. Now I just hope they can create the right drugs to safely deactivate this gene...

That's a nice breakthrough. And very welcomed. I'm just, uh, why the hell did they name the drug pokemon?

"...which the researchers named POKEMON (for POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor)..."
Whoever thought that up should be killed. :/

But a very welcome breakthrough indeed.

Now where is this wonder built? It will make one unhappy citizen content in each city.

...ok I shut up about Civ III now.

Eventually, they narrowed their search to Pokemon, which occurs naturally in human cells and is actually beneficial when working properly. I just find it cute that named it Pokemon but... boy this is going cause alot of confusion.

The news itself is quite good, and very welcomed, but like others, I wonder why they had to name the thing 'Pokemon' Nintendo will likely have something to say about it, but if I were them, I'd be quite happy to be associated with something that can save peoples' lives

I just looked through the Latest Headlines live bookmark in Firefox to see if that was in there, but it's not I'm sure it'll be there before the evening though.

Very interesting, BMF. Thanks for letting us know about that

You're getting it all wrong, Pokemon isn't the cure, it's the cancer overlord.

I find it a coincidence that in biology today, we were studying cancer and gene therapy

Thats it! It is a commercial by Nintendo!

This is really cool, my mom has skin cancer and I have a high chance of getting skin cancer. So hey, I might never have to put up with it.

(I'm the only one of my siblings that hasn't gotten any form of skin cancer.)
