We can all dream, now, can't we? Anyway, I'm just interested in what you want to see from the community sometime. It can be as outlandish as you want, because hey, who DOESN'T have ideas above their own station? My current wish-list is as follows: - English translations of the various Gameboy Kunio games. There's Nintendo World Cup and the Kunio-flavoured Japanese version of Double Dragon 2, maybe the stupidly rare GB version of Technos Samurais? - Hammer Brothers Suit for Super Mario World. If they can do it for SMB1... - A released, working River City Ransom editor. I'm sure you all agree with me. - A DahrkDaiz hack of SMB2. It would be a sight to behold, and I tear up just thinking of the possibilities... - More work on the hacking of the Mario Land games. Now you know my little wishlist, let's see yours! |

A really good hack of any of the classic NES MegaMan games. Most of them just change the platforms and such, I have yet to find one where they do really big and good changes to the games. I also would like a good Zelda 2 & Zelda 3 hack that are completely changed.

In the grand scheme of emulation and hacking, my desire would be an extensive set of emulators, hacking utilities, and other such things available for the GNU+Linux family of OSes ("Linux"), and other Unix-like operating systems such as the BSD family. This would remove one of the biggest roadblocks for hackers looking to make the switch; I can think of at least two people who would probably do so immediately (if not sooner) were this limitation removed. furthermore, I myself already have switched, and now I'd like the emulation scene to catch up. Note that crappy, second-thought, GUI-less emulator ports don't count. Neither do using WINE, VMWare, or other such things. As it is, it's a catch-22: there need to be lots of people using GNU+Linux in order for developers to expend effort supporting it, and the developers need to support it in order to make it desirable for people to switch to GNU+Linux. Why make emulators/hacking utilities for a OS that almost no one uses? Anyway, i'd like to see a SNES emulator with a tracer that didn't suck. I'd like to get rid of the elitist retards from the "scene". (edited by knuck on 01-21-05 03:56 AM) (edited by knuck on 01-21-05 03:58 AM) |

There might be some confusion, since i have NEVER (nor will be) been part of the "scene" as you people call it. And VN, you know damn well who i was talking about. (edited by knuck on 01-21-05 04:44 AM) |

Originally posted by knuckYou are, by your own admission, not even part of "the scene", and yet you wish to have a hand in it. Calling others "elitists" does not separate you from them. Originally posted by knuckYes, I do. You were talking about yourself (whether intentionally or otherwise), as I mentioned in my first reply and I am mentioning in this one. Now, let us drop this. This is turning into a flamewar (albeit one I am confident I could win) and is getting off the stated topic of the thread. |

Originally posted by knuck not that you owuld know how to use them or anything, but what features specifically would you be looking for? anything beyond a basic log of system status during emulation would already be above and beyond what is needed in the ways of a tracer. maybe you just aren't good with it. and actually one of my wishes is to see Jathy's Harvest Moon editor come to completion . beyond that, seeing Temporal Flux in working order is already one wish come true... i can't think of too much else (edited by Gavin on 01-21-05 05:18 AM) |

Ok! A complete Mario Kart hack. I've been waiting for a great Mario Kart hack for years now and finally my frustration made that I started to create a complete hack myself. So, hopefully this year that wish will come true. On to pure fantasy: A complete Lufia editor would be cool, but will surely never happen. Furthermore, I would love to see more people starting to translate games to Dutch. It's pretty strange that many countries have several great translators, though I haven't seen many Dutch people translating. Although there is interest in Dutch translation seeing the download figures on my website. |

- A complete editor for Maniac Mansion on the NES. ScummVM has a tool that can extract all the data from the ROM, so there's a bit of a starting point. - Editors for the following NES games: SMB2, FF3j, Earthbound Zero, and Kickle Cubicle. - A complete phasing out of IPS, to be replaced with a better patch format that actually supports NES ROM expansion. - A NES debugger with conditional breakpoints. (or whatever you call breakpoints that only fire when a certain bank is loaded) |

Originally posted by dan ahh, good call. I've always been interested in seeing the addition of a conditional breakpoint feature, but for excluding specific addresses of code, or when registers contain certain values. FF3j: yah...er...hmm... you know, way back, many many moons ago, i had this silly idea that i was actually going to complete that FF3j map editor of mine. what a silly little lad i was (edited by Gavin on 01-21-05 07:30 AM) |

I really want a Zelda 3 hack. I know that im making Dark Prophecy, but i want something from someone else. I also wish someone would make a softice type program for SNES where people could run through the asm code line by line and search through memory at will. |

I just hope that we can successfully pull off the retranslation of Chrono Trigger. Things are looking good so far. CT: Crimson Echoes will be more difficult, but by then Temporal Flux should be updated and stuff, and I'll know more about modification.

I will agree with Vystrix Nexoth. Programmers need to start writing platform-independant programs. And if they can't (Visual Basic programmers and the like) then they probably shouldn't be programming, anyway! ;D Another wish of mine, which I share with dan, is a replacement to the IPS standard. Not only is IPS unfriendly with expanded NES ROMs, but also with ROMs of different formats. For example, interlaced SNES ROMs, and BIN/SMD format Genesis ROMs. My last wish would be seeing more "uber hacks" as some would say. Hacks on the level of Zelda Challenge and Mario Adventure are a great thing. The more that's hacked, the more different the game experience will be. |
