Has anyone else seen the international fuss over Prince Harry's party costume?

Linkie

It's caused an uproar in the world of politics and religion, from newsreaders in the US to holocaust survivors in Israel.

It's amazing how much trouble one party costume has caused, and the media hysteria that followed.

Should he appear on TV and appologise? Should he visit Auschwitz?

Fucking celebrity "controversy." Oh no, some upper crust was caught doing something "bad." And this isn't really that bad, it's just insensitive. Who knows, maybe he lost a bet and had to wear it. There could be some sort of inside story. God knows he'd have to be a dense kid to think it was.... funny.

The way I look at it, he has already apologized. What is sending him to Auschwitz going to do? If he's level headed he already realizes how terrible the Holocaust was. And if he's some sort of Neonazi revisionist history nut who thinks the Holocaust was a fabrication, I don't think Auschwitz would convince him, I really don't.

Also, if I did this I wouldn't have to apologize to the public. Not even once. They want him to apologize twice? Jeeez. The only reason it's even a spectacle is that some paparazzi took his picture.

It's definately an insensitive costume choice, but the notion that he owes the general public an apology is kinda absurd. I mean, I know the royalty is kind of special and all, but do the British really believe that every action of anyone in the family should be accountable to the public? That's pretty harsh.

You dress up as a Nazi* after helping out with the Tsunami relief, apologize for it and people still hate your guts and demand another apology.

What the fuck.

Given that he is of the House of Windsor, I'm pretty sure he is taking enough flak from his dad and the Queen and all of the familial retainers. You know, they only sent millions of British to their deaths on the fields. Having a lineal descendant of King George dressing up like the enemy that was one of the few to attack them on the home front I think he is having the shit bit out of him by those god damned corgies.

On a scale of 1-10 for offensive, I give it a personal 8. Due to his stupidity, and all the girls in the school swooning over him prior to this (if they still swoon, I'll be pissed off, because I'm hyper aryan )

This thing just stinks of stupidity through and through.

no more than you or I should.

personally i wouldn't care if he was a practicing nazi, what i find more sickening is the severe attention and obsession people have with what you might call "celebrities" or national figures. they're just people, fuckit.

What, you dont think taxpayers should hold the people they help maintain accountable for their actions? (:

Um, the prince is obviously an idiot, but the controversy is a bit overblown. Brits and their royals.

I can't wait until Chuckles the Third becomes King so the republican movement regains momentum in this country.

Nah, I realize the royals are a special case, but it makes me wonder how far this kind of public control can go.

Trapster, if you read the article, he is third in line to succession of the throne. After William and then Charles. Unless they die, he won't take the throne. But boneheads always run strong in royal families.

Simply the Brits obsessing over the Royals, who seem to have fallen so low as to be an "officialized" celebrity family (for example, how even non-political Kennedys are treated in the American media, but official). Anyway, the guy made a bad decision, and as a Royal, the tabloid papers and such make a big fuss, it gets a short mention in the International section of other papers, and eventually they move on to the next thing.. Meanwhile, in return for putting up with this the Royals get fancy titles, massive palaces, and a lot of money..

Actually, I heard somewhere that when he becomes King, Charles is going to take another name as to not be Charles III.. Though maybe that was just a rumor, Charles may end up on the Royal Name "Blacklist" (For example, the name "John" is avoided because of King John).

Given how Canada still has... well... ties to the Monarchy and the Commonwealth, this received QUITE a bit of press. I think he's a bit of an arse for having the gall to do something like that (wasn't his brother there dressed up as a nice, sensible LION?), and he should know better. This isn't an end of the world thing, but it's not going to win him any fans. Put it that way.

I love the Auschwitz idea; mainly because when my class went to Europe in Grade 11 (I didn't go, I chose a new PC over Europe) they went to have a few drinks and a great time in Germany right near the start of the trip. The next day, they were at one of the concentration camps; I'd like to say Auschwitz but I'm not sure. Sobered them up, that's for sure.

I think you nailed it. Bergen-Beltsen's definitely ringing a bell with me, and it would have been close enough from where they were staying.

Its stupid and people making a fuss of it are banned from the news paper/parties/celeberties.

Really it isn't a big deal, no one should care, and I might do the same thing one day. The nazi sign doesn't mean anything anymore.

OMG IT'S TEH NAZI SYMBOL!!!!!1!111 OMG HE SUPPORTS THE HOLOCOST!!!12!

Really, people need to learn to shut up and laugh instead of cry.
