We've been shuffling the bottom of the board pages around a bit in the staff forums and finally came up with a layout we all agreed on. This incorporates a link to Browse Happy and a badge with the current board version. (And the loss of the PayPal button and switch to the blue Big Boards button, prompted by Acmlm. However I'm not going to go into that here.)

Here's what the original Browse Happy badge looked like. I adapted it to fit in better, and out of the layout of that button grew the version badge. The version badge uses a different font than the Browse Happy badge, but I use it a lot personally and thought it fit in. (It's Mini 7's Condensed variant - a font you have to pay for.)

What do you think?

While the browse happy button seems useless (non-affiliated, more of a "THE STAFF WANTS YOU TO USE ANOTHER BROWSER" button, which I hate), the changes (<3 blue bigboards button) and the removal (no more sutpid paypal button that requires a stupid secure connection to load a fucking button! yay!) almost make up for it.

You should probably put them underneath eachother.

What would be even cooler is a minibadge like that for the Bigboards one.

Big boards wants you to use those images because they can trace statistics that way. We -could- do an interim "load image for stats, spit out own image" php script, but isn't the server under enough pressure already?

Browse Happy is completely neutral; it doesn't favor any browser in front of another. We got a lot of flak for the Get Firefox button because we encouraged a specific browser while Browse Happy just encourages using something else than IE. Browse Happy also details the security issues first and foremost. How many of you have had to clean up someone else's PC from spyware because they used IE? That's what we wanted to help a bit with.

Try cleaning out a computer that is so loaded with spyware you can't connect to the internet, that's old and has no other ways to connect to a PC, and... ueah.

I've had to do it. Thank god for Spybot, fits on 3 floppy disks and only took about an hour to clean it

Oh, another thing...

Why are they different sizes? One's 85x15, the other's 100x15.

"AcmlmBoard X.XX" didn't fit in 85x15.

I'm sure you could scrap the X.XX part.

After all, if you're still updating it, you'd have to do a button change every time you did.

So just nuke the x.xx part and everyone wins. Plus it'll make the blocks stackable. =D

Hmm... I always thought it'd look better if we had the buttons the same size, if possible. My main complaint with the last buttons, particularly when we were still hosted by Erk, was that no button was the same size as any other button.

Now we have that same situation. I like the buttons themselves, but is there any way we can get things all the same size?

I tried before in that suggestions thread, suggesting we made standard (88 x 31) buttons, to match the big boards button (I even remade the powered by button in that size to demonstrate)

....can we make same size buttons in this current size? I like the small, cute buttons, but would it work??

So it was you that made the 88 x 31 button. I saw it on Antireality the other day and Randy told me he had seen it on this board in a thread. It looks nice.

But. The staff has already decided that the big blue Acmlm button will NOT go. As the Acmlm button is a very odd size, this immediately rules out "all buttons of one size". The Big Boards button, again, isn't replacable (if you don't know why, read this thread again). The Browse Happy button looked ridiculous when stretched out to 100 (lots of whitespace), as did the AcmlmBoard button when you removed the Acmario at the left, and the point of the additional button exercise WAS to include the version number somewhere.

If anyone's up for making two equal-size version of the Browse Happy and AcmlmBoard badges, you're welcome to try.

Ah, yeah, it was me who made the smaller button, I also made a dodgy "donate" one and a remake of Erk's hosting one too, to try to demonstrate how things look all the same size. (That and I had more important things to do, so I proceeded to procrastinate and do other things instead... like make buttons) I don't think I was aware of it being used anywhere else though, other than in that thread. Cool

Anyways, if the Acmlmboard one has to be that width, perhaps stretching BrowseHappy to that width might help? I don't know if it'd look okay without trying (and frankly right now, cannot be arsed) but it would offer some kind of solution.

Bleh, and the problem with standards is that there's way too many of them.
