I really need some help. Just a few hours ago, I was working on my hack, and I just came back to check up on it again, and it was GONE. Vanished. Not a trace of it. It's not even in the recycling bin, and the recycling bin hasn't been emptyed. I have absolutely no idea what the hell happened to it.

The only copy I have to this is that demo I showed to you guys a while back, but wouldn't you know, that has been locked.

Is there any way to unlock a rom? Please, this is serious! Is there any way at all? I've seen hints that there might be.

Unlocking the rom is completely difficult. Besides the fact that if you did unlock it. Things probley woulden't look as good as you hope for it to be. As for your more updated version being gone like that. It seemed somewhat weird for all that to happen.

I'm not sure how to unlock a ROM, but I know in the thread below this, Keikonium said he knew how to unlock ROMs, but the graphics still wouldn't be displayed properly, and the level design could possibly be off from what you had it before

There's no utility I know of that'll unlock your ROM to the state it was before you locked it, which doesn't help you at all You might, and I stress might, be able to send the most recent copy of your ROM to FuSoYa, and see if he can do anything. There's no guarantees that he will do that though

I know you probably don't want to hear this next bit, but that's why backups are really important. It shouldn't take you more than a minute to back up your ROM after you're done in Lunar Magic. It really is too bad to hear that it's gone. I don't see what could just be deleting files out of the blue

No one knows the exact routines done when locking a ROM except for Fu himself. Anyone who claims to be able to restore a hack fully is lying.

Unless you took some time to understand the Routine (and if you don't know the language, and you say you've figured it out, then you're definately lying)
Understanding a Routine is as simple as understanding the SNES Code,... because that's what it is (well, a Routine is made up of several commands/instructions).

If it's the person who I am thinking of, then there's no chance of getting the information from him/her.

However, you could always learn 65816 (or whatever), locate all the loading routines for encrypted stuff, and reverse engineer it yourself.

Well, I guess FuSoYa's the only one who can help you now. If a search of your computer doesn't turn up the hack(Because files can be accidentally moved very easily), I'd say you're in real trouble.

Judging by the way you said that you were just working on your hack and came back to it to find it missing without the recyling bin emptied and all makes me wonder...

Is there anyone near you who would want your hack deleted?

All my backups were deleted too...all except, well, one. I can rebuild from that one more, I guess, though it is consideraly behind. This isn't a complete disaster, though; the ex/gfx files were untouched, so I don't have to redraw them all.

Bah, my cavern world needed work anyway. I'll just carry on. Thanks for...uh...caring though. I'll take it from here.

OK, backup isnt putting the same file in another folder. Burn it to a CD with music as an extra, put it on a floppy hidden in your room. That is how you back up a hack.

"Is there near you who would want your hack deleted?"

WTF? Are you asking if someone near him would want to delete his hack? Ummmm, if there is, that is just sad. ROM hacking conspiracies. Poor pathetic people.

Personally I use WinCVS (www.wincvs.org)....
I work on the files on one hard drive and things get backed up to my second hard drive
It's not a failsafe....if my computer blows up or my place catches fire i'm out of luck...then again i'd be out of luck if it was on CD anyways unless its in a safe or in another house anyways

this gives me the following advantages:
If i have a hard drive fKitten Yiffer i'm ok
I can undo my changes if i screwed things up
I can go back and look at any previous version i want in case i need to
CVS has the advantage as well that it only stores your changes not the entire file so it takes up less space for your backups as well....
when you commit your changes to CVS make sure you write comments...its handy if you ever go back to a previous version to look at things...

One time I borrowed a friends Super Mario RPG game, and after I played it a while, I laid it on the floor. A little bit later, I tried to play it, but the files were deleted! If someone

No... Fu didn't delete it... I did... and for good reason (a little PM in told me why I should...)

Oh, and don't ask!
