It is not an emulated SNES game, so you can't rip it. There is a japanese snes chrono trigger rom sitting on the CD however.

It is a Japanese ROM, but it is a very strange rom, with glitches (textual mostly, I don't know how to describe it.. ).

Rather than rip the ROM from the CD or play the PSX version, why not just download (from some other site, no asking here ) the version you want to play and emulate it with your emulator of choice? Are you new to emulation?

They included a glitched Japanese ROM? Why would they do that?

Um, did anyone think that maybe he wanted to rip the CD to his hard-disc, thus making it faster?

Find a program that creates an ISO. There's a lot of programs out there that can do this, such as CloneCD, Alcohol 50%/120%, Nero, etc. Then just run it by using ePSXe (or whatever your emulator is)'s option to run the ISO. Apparently, you get better performance if you use CD-ROM emulation software, so you might want to do that also.

The glitches are likely the result of the game reading external files such as the bonus mode, PSX memory card saving, etc. IIRC, they also modified some text handling to correspond to the PSX controller button layout.

I have sort of a related question. I'm trying to rip the music by just recording it internally, but the damn emulator skips every minute or so, slowing down the song and ruining the record. What is the best audio plugin or method to accomplish this? Or, how did John Romero do it, as he has the Extra music on his website?

I know it sounds like a smartass reply, but did you ask "John Romero"?

I can assure you, an ISO will not make the game run faster. It's an emulated game for a system that can't handle it. It will run even slower on the drive, because it still follows the logic of the real system. You're better off the SNES rom.

It's still a good question to ask, Lenophis, because while the original CT is basically the same game as the PSX version, and thus people should be perfectly willing to play the emulated original, other times people might really want the PSX version. The PSX updates to Final Fantasy 1 and 2, for example, are infinitely superior on the Playstation.

I was looking forward to CT on the PS, but I was very disappointed. It's basically CT emulated on the PS. Those loading times can't be corrected at all, no matter what. Hell, the PS2 couldn't do anything about it. And if his machine isn't supberb to emulate the PS, it'll be even worse. Good question, yes. I'm just stating the facts. =\

BTW, comparing the CT port to the FF1 & 2 remake isn't a good choice. Origins was designed with the playstation in mind. (Which is why loading times are nil) FF4, FF5, FF6, and CT were not. (FF Anthology and Chronicles)

Use this information well, joshgames. The CT port only has a couple of things that the SNES version does not...

13 small CG's (framerate isn't the best either)
Frog's full theme in the soundtest, but normal length in game.
Added verse to the boss music.
Most music sounds like crap compared to the SNES version.
Non-updated graphics.
Notes on ending's you've unlocked.

If you're willing to put up with the loading time, then it's probably worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

I could try; the reason he's so special is that he's the inventor of Deathmatch, Doom series, etc. and he recently put up a collection of his favorite music, including those extra tracks. Unfortunately, its 128 kbps, and that won't do.

Is there something wrong with 128kbps? 128 is perfectly normal music quality, unless you're either a spacesaver (someone like Acmlm, who rerecords all music to be ~42kbps) or a perfectionist who can't stand a small bit of compression on huge music

---

Just wondering, does this mean that there is literally a ROM sitting on the disk? Would it have to be formatted in any way (extension change, some fixing) to run in a generic emulator or is it in perfect (though glitchy) condition?

If so, I wonder if anywhere has a copy of this PER* for download?

*Playstation Emulated ROM, because I couldn't think of a better extention for a not-so-SNES ROM

When r3mix.net was up, it held an experiment with 200 users using a pair of thousand dollar headphones and various mp3 qualities. 256 had no discernible difference, 128 did; thus many people encode at 192 as the threshold.

How do you rip a rom? A CD-rom... hmm... not sure if I would go for a "ripping" technique there... I think I would much rather go with the "smash" or "break the shit out of" techniques. They have over time proven much more plausible than ripping. Of course, you can always use it for a frisbee until it shatters.
