Normally I love this browser, but it's giving me issues tonight. I was going about my usual business online when I accidently closed the browser window. No big deal, I went to click the Firefox link on my desktop and it popped up a window saying that browser was already in use and I would need to create another profile. I did, just because I needed to finish what I was doing. I signed off and shut my computer off and now that I'm back, when I open Firefox, it pulls up the second profile. I can't figure out how to get back to my original one. Any help would be extremely appreciated. Losing all my bookmarks would suck, massively. |

The reason why that happens is becuse Firefox was still running in the backround, sometimes instead of opening another window it opens yet another process with a diffrent profile. Select start>run then write "firefox.exe -profilemanager" then run. There you can choose your own profile. The old one is named Default. (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 01-04-05 09:03 AM) |

If you're only concerned about bookmarks, browse the folder in Program Files. Somewhere in a randomly-named folder should be a bookmarks.xml file (or similar, I forget what the actual extension is). You can open it in a browser to see what's in it, then just copy it over the one in the new profile. (At least, that's how I copied mine from another installation of Mozilla.) | |||

Kitten Yiffer: Chances are it'll return a file not found error. Try looking through the menus for a profile option. Since I don't use the program (thank God) I can only hope that they do have profile options. |

XK: They don't, lovely, no? HyperHacker: Thanks for the advice, but I couldn't find the folder. Wonder if that's a bad thing Kitten Yiffer: It worked! Thanks a ton I feel the need to glomp you now, but I shall refrain |

Originally posted by XkeeperNo it dosen't, just writing "firefox.exe -profilemanager" is enough to make it run. Did you think I didn't test that? Programs that are defined in the registery just needs it's name written to run, like cmd, command, notepad and so on. Glad that it helped thought. |

Firefox might store them differently, I don't really know. The folders are pretty cryptic, though. Also, XK, if a program is in the System32 folder or defined in the registry as Kitten Yiffer mentioned, you don't need to specify a path to run it. (A very nice feature indeed. ) I suppose this doesn't need to be open anymore, if everything's working now. |
