Well, M is 17 here, too, I was just talking about general age of consent/adulthood/etc.

I actually like it that there is a age limit, sure did I play 15-18+ games when I was 12 years old. Such as Doom, but i'm not thinking that younger kids should just play GTA just like that.

Shortly after I turned 17, went out and bought San Andres.

Gamestop + San Andres = Duh.

Funny though, all my friends complain about Best Buy being really strict. But whenever I go there and buy M games (recently bought Onimusha 3) they don't even care, then again, my cashiers usually end up being younger girls who probably could care less.

Its weird..at walmart here, right by the cash register it says not ot sell M rated games to people under 18, and me being 16, i was expecting to get told to show my id, to see if I was over 18, or asked if I was over 18, neither happened, and ive bought about 6-8 M rated games there since seeing that sign there...it seems like they dont care.

Usually, I try and go to the checkouts with old ladies at them. That's how I got the full Diablo II box set thing. I was 13 at the time. And it was an M-rated game. Bitchin'.

Nope, never. Can't say I don't buy Mature games, especially with my recent Metal Gear Solid loving, but they've never carded me for them anywhere. I'm 18, so it wouldn't matter, but I know I don't look 18...

When I was growing up I don't think we even had M rated games on the mainstream market. Maybe towards the very end. I think Doom for Snes had an M rating... The game ratings system was just being created at that time. Either way, I wonder if they still have those black market games where you do things that actually are pretty despicable. Like Jewkiller or Serial Rapist.

It did but then again I don't think it made much of an impact.

...Serial Rapist. OK. That's likely:

A) An "AO" game;
B) Not sold in a-n-y stores.

No, but I've only recently started caring that M-rated games even exist. I never shop alone anyway. Of course, it could be a problem since I don't have ID.

I voted yes. I went to GameStop, was buying a used game. They asked me if I had a gamestop card.

Damn carding people.

Sure, it makes sense, but it's kinda annoying when your parents don't want to come with you to buy a game.

Well I don't know how the US system works, but over here all games have an 'advised' age on them, as a store we don't have to stick with that but we can't really sell 16+ games to a 12 year old, but its not illegal for us to do so. Some games however, like Manhunt and GTA, have BBFC ratings, which are legally binding. If I sold GTA to someone under 18, I could get fined up to

The PEGI-Rating, seen on european games, will be binding in Switzerland from 1st of February. The German FSK too, if no PEGI is present.

And about GTA San Andreas, we had to import the cut 16age German Version, 'cause some customers wanted them, but our distributor didn't have them. so the cut down version is more expensive (99.- compared to 94.90, Prices in Swiss Francs inkl. 7.6% VAT).

I think Australia has the strictest video game rating board around - for those of you who don't know, if the game breaks any of their taboos, it's banned. Same for movies/etc.

Man, we gotta do have a slack censoring in Sweden then. You can almost show anything on public TV, expect for porn.

Germany is funny, I heard that some games are changed around. Like the orginal German CnC and Red alert they replaced the soldiers with humanois robots. They look like robots falling apart as death sequences.

Yeah, but it all depends on where you are in the world. Some games have had special versions released in Australia to conform with standards.

Canada, as far as I know, just follows the standard ESRB rating.
