Yet another one of thoose "Visit the page and get Virus", and it's even affecting SP2.

An update is probably one the way through, but still. I wouldn't visit random porn/warez/dark sites with IE in Windows XP SP2. Apparently that virus is not common but... I just felt it was worth to mention.

...isn't that the oppesite of hacking/porn sites anyway?

And well, I would recomend people getting a alternate browser, and just not becuse of this. Whetever it be Opera, Firefox, Mozilla or Konquerer. Hell Jesper just say one reason why I rather use other browsers.

Apparently, a fix is on the way. And I doubt it spreads far, unless it's on a popular "warez/porn/hacks" site.

Well, before IE was the best browser compared to, let say, Netscape. I tried Netscape back then, and I never liked it. But then you can blame it on Webdesigners designg their site for a spefic browser.

Oh how much I hated that, even if I liked Firefox I wouldn't go and make a site which only Firefox would render correctly.

Yes I do prefer Firefox if anything, but i'm not one of thoose who block IE users.

If anything, I would try to make my site follow the W3C standards.

...besides I didn't want to turn this thread into yet another browser war thread.

I heard about this on Slashdot last night, before I went to bed. There are also a bunch of other new vulnerabities found that are unpatched, some affecting SP2...

There's a LoadImage API vulnerability, that affects BMP, ICO, CUR, ANI files...

There's also an ANI vulnerability that causes system crashes....

And two Help File overflow vulnerabilities, the one mentioned in this thread uses a number of IE vulnerabilities to get past the Local Zone protections and run... well, in this case, a Trojan called Phel, so far.

Your best bet at the moment is to use a browser that isn't IE. Firefox, Opera, whatever, just not IE or IE based.

Well, I've heard of and used at least two other browsers that aren't IE and aren't Firefox.

Mozilla, and Opera.

Oh, three... Netscape... although all they do at the moment is use Mozilla code.

Doesn't help that Microsoft's not going to update IE until Longhorn comes out.

Safari for Mac users as well in terms of browser selection.

No, Hardware/Software forum is helpful if you don't want to spam up General Chat with: "Help me my comp is the suxxors" threads...

I was actually thinking on actually creating the thread there, but the Hardware/Software forum seems to be more of a help forum. At least the describtion hints that. And most threads there are troubleshooting ones...

And therefore, the threads fits better in General chat.

Personally, I'd like to see Hardware/Software become more of a discussion (and not just help) forum... it doesn't explicitly say anywhere in the description that it *has* to be help stuff, it's just that that's what it always turns out to be.

Course, even if Hardware/Software became the place for these things, if a vulnerability is serious enough, or a virus serious enough, I will post it in here. Some things need to be bought to the attention of as many people as possible, not just the group of users that visit Hardware/Software.

But yeah, this and that Santy thread should prolly go into Hardware/Software?

Colleen -- with Safari, I keep forgetting I have it. I didn't like it, so I installed Firefox.

I've come close to just completely delete IE as of late.

I still get the dumbest popups with it, for awhile there was "Popuppers" now there's this "diet pop up" that even comes with speech with a girl screaming out the speakers.

And I don't even use IE.
