In the 7 years I've had a PC, there's only been one reformat ... on the old 200MHz one when (at the same time) cleaning it and upgrading from Windows 95 to 98

But switching to a new computer isn't much different (have to reinstall everything, etc.), and I've done that twice so far

Only when I need to...more like a last-ditch effort to patch something up.

Usually if something's threatening, I try to fix the problem, then safe mode it, then critical boot with 2K discs, then if that fails, I reinstall Windows.

If something is fscked more than that, then it's either a severe data fsckerage in my comp (which I haven't had happen more than once in a 200 of mine that had a skewered file system for some reason) or the hard drive's dead and I need a new one. If it's a skewered sys, then I'll reformat and hope I have what's necessary to reinstall Windows.

As in the practice of partition your comp's hard drive, I don't believe in it. Why do that when you can just by an extra hard drive if you're that set on breaking something that could easily be done with file folders? I don't see much difference in performance by either practice, so it's really up to the user.

In 4 years, never.

I should though, but the reason as to why I don't ... this is more of a "family" computer, and my dad doesn't want to waste his time doing a hard format through DoS or whatever ... he wanted to use the "XP backup" CD, which doesn't work, and thus this computer will probably never be reformatted unless it becomes 100% mine.

It's crappy. =\

With GNU/Linux: Only once because I screwed up the filesystem (and that's about the only way to have it screw up).

With Windows 2000: About every four months.
