Seriously, who would pay that much for just a cat? I know I wouldn't and I heard about this just a little while ago from a Boston station I get from satellite. So, yeah I thought I spread it around.

Now I'd understand it if it was a cat breeder looking for a champion cat, but not by someone who wants their old cat back.

At first I was going to say something to the effect of that just being crazy, but then I read the bit of the article about how the cat was cloned from her other one that died I guess if she was quite willing to spend the money to have that done, it's completely her choice, but still, she was lucky. Read the bottom of the thing, and you'll see that they plan on charging $100,000 for their first 'customers'

The comment about being able to provide plenty of 'homes' for stray cats really is true. I personally don't think it's worth it to pay any amount of money to clone an animal, when you could use that money to help a large number of other ones

I don't know what it's like in other places, but here, there have been a few complaints that there's a lot of stray cats around. Sure, nobody in their right mind would just go pick up a random cat they saw walking around, and take it home as a new pet, but still, you can get a cat for probably somewhere around $100 at the humane society here. If you wanted one that looks like a cat you had that died, it most likely wouldn't be very hard to find one. It's not like you should spend a fortune just to get a pet In the long run, pet supplies and stuff may total up to quite a tidy sum, but I still think that's more worth it in the end.

I love both of my kitties, but I don't think even a clone of them could replace them if they died. They wouldn't have the same memories and might not turn out the same. Besides, $50,000? Ye gods, buy a new cat and lots of stuff for it with that. Better yet, donate it. That's a year of college tuition for some people, if not more.

Hey my mom did that but the cat wasn't walking around just sitting in our open garage trying to stay warm.

I was thinking more along the lines that it'd be walking around outside somewhere, and thus be at a greater risk of having some sort of disease Even if you were to do that, you'd definitely want to take it to a vet so you can see how healthy it is, and then what happens if it's somehow sick? I'm not sure what would happen then, because I don't think it would be your pet, but still, you're the one that's responsible for it right then.

In your Mom's case, the fact that it was sitting in the garage makes the situation seem a bit better, and then obviously she must really like cats, to take one in just like that Like I said about the lady in the article you posted, if you're prepared to do it, go ahead.

When I lost my cat a while ago, the guy at the emergency vet said he had a condition very similar to antifreeze poisoning, which is relatively common. Basically, on the small chance that it was not antifreeze poisoning, the only chance of recovery involved a full blood transfusion from a live donor cat, after which he would still be unlikely to survive, and if it was antifreeze poisoning (much more likely) he was fucked no matter what. So the choice came down to: expensive procedure at the cost of another cat for very low odds of survival, vs. euthanasia. It was still a terribly difficult decision. I think if I had hundreds of thousands of dollars to throw around, I probably would have tried a service like this, crazy as it sounds. Do not underestimate what people would do for their pets.

Hey, enough of that depressive shit. Cloning is funny. =D

Ok, so it appears I should rephrase what I said There's not alot of people that I know that would pick up a cat they saw walking around outside, and keep it as a pet. There's obviously other people that would do that, such as you, Dark Vampriel, and other people out there, and you're all quite entitled to do so

She must live by herself with no family desperately needing companionship.... I'd never pay that damn much for some cat. I'd want it in my bank account for my much needed tuition payments.

Yes cats are very good animals!
but 50.000$ is a lot of money!
cats would be able to have a good life for like 1$!

Save the animals!

I see nothing wrong with this, your just getting a twin of your cat. It's not going to be fully the same, no matter what. I probably wouldn't do this for personal reasons, if it's dead. Then it is...

Even human twins aren't exactly the same, whatever the rumours says. One does always differ in one way.

And well, people may fight against this. But I doubt it would stop, it will be much more common in the future...

I heard about this, but they didn't mention the price. $50,000 is a bit much to spend on a pet when there's so many that need homes already.

That's how Angel was a week ago was really malnurished and you could feel the bones in her hips. But she's much better now and really happy even though our other cats are still afraid of her. XD
