I seem to be having a hard time with arranging the things in it. Yes, I am a nooby to ROM hacking, and I dont know hex editing, or any of that good stuff. Bu I found a program that allows you (so it says) to re-arrange dungeons and things in the Zelda game itself. It also lets you change the text, but even changing the text to fit the game seems to be a bit difficult. The program I am using to "rearrange" dungeons is called Zeldait. This file is ok, but kind of confusing (doesnt look like it flows to me). Its not what I was hopeing for though. I was thinking of something like Hyrule Magic, except not as big. Where I can re-arrange and add/delete ANYTHING in that room (or square as I call it). An overworld tool I found called Zelda Tech, seems to work pretty darn good. Though I havent practiced with it much. To make a long story short, I want a program where I can edit the levels (dungeons) and which levels you get items. I want to make completely new (redesigned) dungeons, without the knowledge of hex editing and all that good stuff. Any help? (edited by Rockola on 12-23-04 09:12 PM) |

Good luck... the structure of the original Zelda makes it a bit difficult for you to just make dungeons how you see fit. You probably will need to know hex editing to do any really 'overhaul'-ish with the game. It isn't hard if you buckle down and get to learning it, and I'm sure there are some people (ie not me) who can give you their own experiences with hacking the first game. I don't know who made ZeldaC, but I'd guess the people who made that are a good place to start.

Check www.zophar.net for rom editing tools. There are a few other sites. Google searches help

Thanks for thr info. Though, I'm not really looking for too much o an over haul. I dunno really. Just wanted to remake the dungeons for new game play. It would pretty much be for personal entertainment. I got those 2 programs from zophar.net, and Google search didnt exactly help me. Thanks though. I'd really like to learn Hex editing. I've tried to get started with learning it before, but most tutorials are insanely long and confusing (ie you need to know the basics of hex editing already), or there are the short tutorials which were a waste of time to look for and that dont go into much detail. I suppose I could always buy a book about Hex editing. I'm sure the Barnes and Nobles not far from my house would have something on it. But it seems like a waste of money and time to learn something that may not be used much. If I knew hardcore Hex editing, could I do this stuff easier and completely emake games? |

AFAIK, Zelda 1 only has X (256?) different room patterns (which is why you see a lot of reused rooms) I don't think there's a tool out there that'll let you do whatever you want with it; for that, try using, say, Nephi/Link's Awakening. |
