OK, so I just got raped by 47 bots searching my site. I would LIKE to IP ban them, but it seems someone forgot to code IP banning into v1.92... How do I IP Ban, or am I screwed? |

As it was said before, IP banning won't help you if bots are all over the place. A robots.txt file would be better... |

I don't think that the server hosting me supports robots.txt. Never worked before... Anyway, yay for IRC. For those who are wondering, you have to add each IP one at a time to the ipban table. And you can do the entire IP, or partial, just like in ipban.dat. |

I don't think that the server has much to do with the robots.txt file. I presume the bot fetches the file itself, and does the check. | |||

Alright, then I guess I screwed it up. Would someone care to enlighten me as to the correct way to set up robots.txt, and what dir it has to be in? 'Cause I have a "root" dir, along with a public_html dir, and some other dirs... |

Visit http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/exclusion.html for information about robots.txt . It needs to be in whatever directory is the root directory for the domain. |
