It appears that people in Hawaii will have to pay $200 if they want one now... I wouldn't pay $200 for one even if I had a tradition of setting up a real Christmas tree

That's a little intense.

I'm sure a palm tree from the backyard would work just as well.

And they look so pretty with the lights!

Zero, here. Unless I get one of those really cheap, fake, tiny ones.

I haven't really checked the prices for Christmas trees around here, but I would assume that they go for something like (16) 24 - 32$. If I were to buy one, I don't think I'd pay more than 32$.

Despite the fact that the area I live in is heavily forested, I seem to recall some trees going for upwards of 75 dollars

I've never had a real tree, but the ones around here aren't cheap from what I understand. And they make a hell of a mess.

I like my little bitty plastic one....

If you've never had a real tree when you were younger, I can understand people not understanding the magic of one.

But for 200 bucks? Screw magic...

What are you talking about? The tree is just a thing. It's not magic, just traditional.

If it were magic it wouldn't burn quite so well.

It's an expression. It doesn't mean the tree actually has magical properties.

*hands Kyouji the Trapster Award for Post Comprehension*

$200 is excessive. Then again, I've heard that a lot of stuff is really expensive in Hawaii, so most people living there probably have the money to spend on something like that.

Edit: And if you were being sarcastic, Kyouji, you both did a half-assed job of showing it, and made me look like an idiot.

Yeah, I suppose I did do a pretty poor job of doing it. But at the very least, you could fairly easily come ot the conclusion it wasn't serious by the fact that I said that if it was magic it wouldn't burn quite so well, suggesting I was taking what Jarukoth said completely literally, when it was so obviously figurative that only Trapster could actually do so. Am I Trapster? No

I've seen decent real tree lots around here for $40-50 Canadian, but I'm sure that's only the average going rate.

$200 doesn't really surprise me given shipping costs to get them to the islands.

Real trees around here are often free, though perhaps not legally. I still prefer artificial trees, though. Less mess, less cost, reusable.

If *you* want to go out into a forest and cut down a tree that might be lying on someone's property and said owner comes out with a shotgun, it's YOUR problem trying to explain to the doctors at the hospital how come you have pellets in your butt.

Some people can get away with finding public domain trees though.

*draws a map of the United States for Kitten Yiffer*

OK, Kitten Yiffer. That big mass of land between Canada and Mexico is the United States. There's 50 states, but only 48 are in that area. Alaska is up here, northwest of Canada.

Hawaii is over here, MANY miles from the west of California and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. Of COURSE they need to freight them over.
