| I call this meeting to order. Listen up. 1. != We all know what it means so it doesn't make you look smart or refined. For the love of all that is right in the world, just say "does not equal" or something along that line. 2. "OMFG TALKING LIKE TEH THIS!!!11one" Back in the day, way way back in the day, it was hilarious. Then time went on and it became just "funny". Even more time passed and it became "slight chuckle amusing". Even MORE time passed and now it's just redundant. No, it's beyond that. It's dead. Dead. DEAD! Let's put its corpse in the ground. It's like watching a movie several thousand times over the course of a few years. Every day of your life. 3. Post counts. I know this will never happen, but it's nice to dream. It doesn't matter what I say, people are always going to care highly about some stupid little number that literally has no value. Why god, why? 4. "This is old." Oh, my, god. This is probably one of my biggest irks. If someone posts something that's not less that 5 minutes old, people will freak out and be all "I saw this before, it's old. What's the matter with you? You should die." Or something like that. Guess what? Just because you've seen it doesn't mean it should be abolished from the entire message board. You don't symbolize everybody. Now this doesn't apply to extreme cases such as AYB, of course. 5. Newbie threads. Seriously, no one cares who the new people are.  It's just an excuse for number 3. There are very very few exceptions when a newbie will actually be interesting. But the other 99%? No. But if those are never abolished, then at least get rid of everyone saying "Read the faqs". omg. 6. this It's time to give it a rest. 7. The people who are going to take this thread way too seriously and respond with crap like "You can't tell me what to do! This is the internet! Who are you to judge me? If you don't like it, go somewhere else! Stop oppressing our funitude!" Yeah, they should be abolished. 8. Minute spelling error corrections. Guaruntee <---- That's spelled wrong. But if you use all that brian power of yours, you can tell which word I was trying to say right? Of course you can! Why waste the time pointing out something that benefits NO ONE? Eh, I could have swore I had more than this but I guess I don't. Feel free to add your own. Oh, and if you do, don't pull something like this: "People who make threads like this". I can see that coming a mile away so it's best that you don't. It's too predictable. Oooh, that's another thing that should be abolished. Predictabillity. Half the time I know exactly how certain people are going to respond to certain threads. For instance, say User W posts a thread that may not contain the smartest content. I know exactly how User X, Y and Z are going to respond to it. And there's nothing entertaining about it at all. It's boring. Throw us a little surprise here and there. Get some new material! I might call this the Acmlm Board Posting Reform. And I'll sign it if your ideas are fit for my signiture. (I'm the King of the board in case you forgot. So I can do that. Mmmmyes.) |

| Post counts are definately overrated... tho it's fun to see the numbers it's not something someone should live by. ACS also needs to be abolished, people bitch about spam, get rid of the ACS. People that actually give a shit on what people on the internet think of them. People that bash something just cause they don't like said thing, as in "OMG, I hate Stinkin Park" or "The Xbox is a piece of shit", seriously people, get a life. |

| I'll comment on what I think about what both Legion and Black Lord posted. 1) I haven't seen very many examples of this, but I agree with it. It's good that they know an easy way to write 'not equal to' or whatever, but it's not going to kill them to type three or four words. 2) I've seen this a lot on other boards I've been at. The thing that gets me is how there's always exclamation marks at the end, then somewhere in there a 1. That's understandable; you might take your finger off the shift key, but why do they feel the need to type 'one' or whatever other number? It doesn't make them look any better. I suppose this could go in here as well, about people that talk in l33t. It probably takes more work to type stuff like that than it does to type normally. 3) The board I was last on actually disabled showing post counts next to your posts, but you could still check how many you made in your profile. They also disabled adding posts to your count in a couple sections of the board (random nonsense stuff), which drastically cut the posting in those areas. It's frustrating to find out that some people only post for the sole intent of increasing their count, but I'm getting off-topic. Like you said, it doesn't have any value, except showing how many posts you made. Personally, it's nice to be able to check my count from time to time, but I didn't join this site just to try to get a higher post count than everyone else. 4) I'd have to guess part of the reason people do that, is some sort of "Haha. I saw it before you, so this post is a waste of time" thing. Maybe they should realize that they're not the only ones in the world, and that there's plenty of other people that haven't seen whatever it is yet. 5) I don't think these should be gotten rid of. What if someone's never been on a message board before, and they join because it looks like a good place to be. They're certainly not going to jump right into posting, so a Newbie thread can be a good place for them to start off. As far as it being an excuse for point 3, how do you think you would feel if you were new at a board, made a Newbie post, and nobody replied to it? It most likely would make you think you weren't very welcome there. At least that's what I think. 6) That sort of thing can be useful when you're talking about a whole group of items, but when it's just two choices, it's really quite pointless. It's not going to break you fingers to type 'this is better than that'. 7) I was going to at first, but then I thought better of it, since whoever reads this can think whatever they want, but they shouldn't start flaming you, or anyone else for something like this. ||bass's first poll about which religion you were comes to mind right now. 8) Like with number 4, this is probably another thing that makes the person correcting the spelling think they're greater than everyone else, since they can spell words right. I could see it being acceptable for major spelling mistakes, but not for minor ones like the example you gave. Try reading this: * curvy has quit IRC (Quit: it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. So stpo coerrcitng my tpyos!) You could understand it after a bit of thinking, right? There's no problem then. Of course, hopefully there never comes a time where someone posts something like this, but if one or two words are spelt that way, it's not a big deal. 9) I'll make the assumption that no matter what board, as long as it has a system like the ACS, there'll be people that join and post for the sole reason of appearing on it day after day. Good for you. You're one of the top ten posters for today, now go outside and do something that doesn't involve a computer. 10) I guess I fit into that category then. I don't let it take control of me by any means, but I still don't want people here, or on any other board I might find myself on to hate me. The people that devote all the time they're logged in to making people like them need to reconsider what they're doing though. 11) An example I can think of that happened on this board is in Magicargo's introduction post. Read the second from last post. Why did he even feel the need to post something like that? If you don't like said item, then don't reply. Bashing whatever it is because you don't like it will just end up gettting you into trouble sooner or later. Some irks of my own now: 1) People that join a board, make 3 or 4 posts, and are never seen again. 2) Anyone who thinks that they can get anything and everything just by posting a new thread asking for something. 3) Anyone, on any board, that doesn't bother to read the basic rules, and then makes a thread that breaks 3 out of 4 of them. Also in there are the people that respond to those threads, pointing out which rule they broke and telling them not to do it again. 4) The people that say 'This thread again?' or something similar when they recognize the subject matter from a thread that was posted a while ago.
