I'm sure we've all seen these systems... kinda shaped like an N64 controller, holds 700-something games (only abour 70 unique ones, of course), and maybe eight good games. Anyone try to crack one open and find the ROMs within, then replace them? I think it might be a very nice plug and play solution, if only you could put some GOOD ROMs/hacks on there. I'd imagine you have to use the same size ROMs, maybe even ones that use the same mappers?

Am I wrong or are those things emulating multiple systems?

edit: Or maybe it actually IS multiple systems.

We have one (12000 in one, more like 120 and even then most are just romhacks that start you at other days (like Sunday for Paperboy, or round Z for Araknoid, etc) and have wierd names (inpregnable forest? (that's araknoid, btw)))

I was thinking about replacing ROMs (not that I have a way), since those suck.

The only bad thing is that the N64-shaped 12000-in-one we have has craptacular control and the sound is pretty bad, too...

Anyway, it'd be nice changing it to other things, or ripping the ROMs (like some strange one claled "Chess" but is in japanese and looks more like Othello/Reversi, complete with near-instant game-over XD)

Not to mention that those puppies are 50$ each, so unless this one's out of comission soon, no way XD

these systems use gloptops, wich are very, very hard to replace.

besides, these clones only have games that require no mapper at all afaik.

if you want to play hacks on a real nes, your best bet is do modify an original nes cart and replace the prg maskrom with an eprom (and the chr-rom, too, if the game has any, of course)

they dont emulate anything, these are straight nes hardware clones.

It's not that I wanna play hacks on a TV, it's more just load it up with a bunch of decent games and pack up the NES if you feel like it.

MoN: I was thinking of the N64-shaped ones, because they're probably the most common. But I guess for the purposes of discussion, any similar plug-and-play pirate will work.

Yeah, some guy at the mall tried to peddle one of these on me for 55 dollars, saying that "tomorrow it'll be $120, and everyone will still buy one". He wouldn't believe me when I told him I already had every single NES game imaginable on one CD at home.

But yeah, it'd be awesome if anyone could find some way to load those things up with some real hacks. Or to be able to customize and rewrite what games will be on the thing, kind of like a Ipod that runs Rom images.

hehe
$55 is indeed a bit steep.
if somebody wants to aquire such a thing, you shouldnt pay more than $20 for it,maybe less.
from time to time, you can get them for $1-$5 on ebay, nobody is interested in them usually.

i hate to burst your bubble, but these things use non-rewriteable maskroms, theres absolutely NO WAY to rewrite them.
and no matter what it looks like from the outside(n64 controller, polystation, poly xbox etc), the inside is always the same and it will look like the picture above.

Yeah. It's impossible to replace the standard ROMs with EEPROMs you know.

I bought the N64 shaped "Super Joy"... the one with Contra 2 on it.
The people who were selling it didn't know shit... they didn't beleive that the slot in the back was for Famicom games. I had to bring one in to show them!
They actually thought the system was 16 bits and has been Nintendo approved.

If you like pirate Nes or Famicom consoles check this out:
http://www.ccgoods.com/products/?tid=9

It's all wholesale though... but we could all pitch in and all of us could get one of each... hehe nah I'm just dreaming here.

I want the keyboard one... there is one keyboard pirate console that comes with a famicom cartridge with Windows on it, but this is probably not the one. Check it out though!
http://www.nesworld.com/p-sanj.htm

But yeah... it would be cool if we could put the games we want on it.

And why would you want that, exactly?

Just because it's funny and rare. I'm not saying that it's useful or anything but definitely something every collector might want to put a hand on. I would also like to see that cartridge dumped so we have another Nes rom to add to our collection.

I love my Nes and anything Nes related, I'm not the only one here that's for sure.
