As for your hack, it needs work. The levels are short and bare. Wheres the koopas/goombas/rexes/ect? All you have are pipes with pirahna plants. There are some (not many though) gfx issues as well. There are lots of points in the level where you just walk around doing nothing. The piranah plant going downward has a black sqaure for a body. plus the smb3-goal thing at the end of the first level is a squished rex. One last thing, the background in the second level (underground one) is conflicting with the forground (same-ish colors)

I say lengthen the levels, add more enemies, and darken the background of the second level. Thats just starting suggestions though.

Additionally, what's with the 4-up moonshroom? That combo looks terrible and frankly is ridiculously easy to acquire even as big mario. Additionally, it seems like you just randomly threw things together, with the blocks all over the place. It's like you don't care.

Direct SMB2 rip. :\ I do plan to darken it a bit, though

Lengthen the levels I've tried to make the levels extend to screen 0F.

Level 2 was mainly a test level anyway. :\ I'm definitely going to redo this one.

the main problem here is the level design. You can't just randomly put blocks and stuff around the place, it seems, as Davis/Kyouji/Blisseh/Kratos said, that you only randomly threw things together, and you have to add more sprites also.
Like, there's a small variety of enemies and no level ideas. Level ideas are important, you have to use your criativity at the highest potential you can when creating something, and that applies on hack production also.

Your palletes and rips are perfect, very well done. Just try to improve your skills in terms of level design and level ideas, try to spend a lot of time in a level, discovering various ways of making your game enjoyable.

Level 1:
AUGH! Status bar palette problem!
Two piranha plants jumping out of the same pipe? ...nah...
The feather block at the upper right corner of the level's bump sprite is a P-switch instead of a block. Needs fixing.
The upside down piranha plant's vine is a black box.
The goal point sphere is a squished Rex!

Level 2:
AUGH! Status bar palette problem!
Blue coins and pipes? Not looking too bad, but they just don't fit.
At the end, where the priranha plants jumps through the stone blocks, they will get stucked in the blocks when they tries to return to the pipe. Using the Mario Only block from Blocktool should fix it.
The classic piranha plants at the end only shows their mouth, not the vine.

Castle:
Can't... Beat... It...


...Anyway. I'm against rips. They were nicely done, but they're still ripped. As I mentioned above, there's a SBPP (Status Bar Palette Problem) in the first two levels. The level design wasn't the best. I'll give you a few hints.
1: Everything must have a reason.
2: Don't add an object/sprite for the sake of it.
3: The formula for a perfect time limit = (The time an average player beats it without running his/her butt off + 100)
4: Don't use "Ping Pong Paths" (A path where you run to the right, jump to the next platform, run to the left, jump to the next platform, etc.)
5: More enemies. However, never more than 2-3 different enemies.

That's not an excuse since sprite hacking is possible these days.

Yes, sprite hacking and programming is very possible these days, you just have to be a person who knows what the hell the're doing. Have a look around the Sonic Hacking community and you'll see that Sprite programming is a piece of cake for some of the people there. You'll also notice that Sonic 2 is almost fully documented. I think that the only reason SMW isn't better documented is because people have gotten lazy, and have always had the attitude that it is impossible to accomplish anything of much value (the ability to make amazing things isn't so amazing when you work with those kinds of things a lot,... the knowledge to configure them the way you want becomes more of what you'd call, necessary).

Hey Knuck, if you want to think it's impossible, go ahead. Just don't be surprised when you start to see more of the "amazing" things being done to SMW in the near future.
As soon as I learn how to program in 65816 ASM (and I will start in a week, since that is when I'll be done my current term of college), you'll start to see some dramatic changes. And I would also like to enlighten more than just myself, so if anybody else wants to stop being left behind in all of the exciting stuff, come to me in a few months, and I'll teach you everything that I can. So if you want to learn all of this "impossible" stuff as Knuck likes to call it, I'll be glad to teach anyone that's interested,... but you'll need to have a little faith in yourself and stop believing all of the "impossible crap" that people have been driving into your heads (it certainly is not just Knuck, I hear this from just about everyone at this Forum).
I think it's time that I make some in depth Tutorials that cover almost all aspects of SMW (which will actually come in useful for other games too)

What I mean is that it's easy to change which graphics a sprite uses. All you have to do is to change one or two bytes (+ 1 bit if you'd like to use page 1/2 instead). I'm too lazy to check which byte(s) to change, though.
