If you only had to pay American gas prices, would you drive a car or use public transit?
I would prefer if only non-Americans who currently use public transportation answer this poll.

Simple enough question.
The current average US gas price is $1.911 per gallon.
Please see http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/wrgp/mogas_home_page.html for regional details.

Seing as how I'm asking non-Americans for a responce, it seems appropriate to give the numbers in foreign measure...

$1.911/gallon = $0.505/liter

Can I have an idea of what American Gas Prices are??

Last I heard they were better than Australian ones, but that was a while ago.

$2.10.... a gallon?

*confused*

We pay per litre, I'm going to have to do conversions... so confused.

Incidentally, it's around a dollar a litre here at the moment, which is considered very high.

Yes, $2.10/gal.

Though here it's more like $2.20, with it being $1.95 in the slums.

Keep in mind this is the cheapest, it usually goes up 10 cents for the different octains (usually 89, 91, 92/93)

I voted for Public Transportation. Even though it might take a bit longer to get to your destination that way, it'd sure be quite a bit cheaper in the long run than having to buy gas for your vehicle from time to time

Eh *votes*

I'll use Public Transport, like I currently do anyways.

I worked out how much it costs to run a car at Aussie prices and it makes better sense for me to catch Public Transport instead.

Otherwise I have to pay registration, fuel, car parking, etc, and it just didn't work out to be cost effective.

I may hate the bus, but it saves me money, so I can spend money on other crap.

Yea but for the poll you're supposed to assume you only had to pay American prices.

Yeah, and that's even more, so the answer is double no to driving.

No, no and no!

Too expensive at Aussie prices even. Oh, and I forgot insurance, although the biggest cost is the fact that I have to buy parking space at $15 a day to park in the city.

We did drop as low as $1.69 when driving down to Springfield, IL this past Tuesday for funeral crud. That's the lowest I've seen it in a LOOOONG time.

OK, you're saying 50.5 cents/litre in America. I saw a gas station today at 77.9 cents Canadian. If I was in America, that would be 61.9 at the moment.

Personally, I don't drive so I'd use public transit, but 61.9 is MIGHTY tempting...

Non americans: If you want to do a rough conversion, a gallon is about 4 litres. A little less, but neglegible.

Just a note, after having caught public transport home.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SUCKS!! (at least, it does in Adelaide).

Bleh, but it's still a LOT cheaper than the expenses involved with a car.

Eh, I wouldn't have been able to drive home anyways.... but for different reasons. Sight is one of the things that would be impaired

Eh, I used to have a car, and prices have been as high as they are at the moment (in Australia at least) when I had it. I used to just put little amounts of money in for petrol. but I dunno why, I guess I used to fool myself into thinking I wasn't spending so much that way (but I was likely spending even more).

The prices, btw, seem a little higher than they are here, but like I said, they're at very high prices here. I remember that they used to be in the 90c a litre range once.....

I prefer public transportation for way other reasons that gas prices.

I find it more comfortable with buses here, and considering that I travel with them for free. ;P

Our Public transporation is good.

Lucky!! Ours is only good in certain areas, and very bad in others.

I guess the choice though with petrol stuff here depends not only on the price of petrol, but also the quality of service provided by Public (or other) Transport in your area.

Mine sucks, but not enough for me to really seriously look at getting a car. It'd have to be a little worse before I thought otherwise.
