You are all unlucky, the only thing i lost was a PSX because it sucked. I still have a sega genisis and a whole lot of other systems that I don't use. (Even though I did take out my 64 to play Ogre Battler 64 again.)

I've heard of stories of pots of coffee being accidentally spilled into the back of monitors. Unplugged the monitor, let it dry out for a week or so, somewhere dry, plug it back in, it's fine -- although it makes a lovely roasting coffee smell for a bit after startup.
Aye, I ran a GB game through the washer in my jeans pocket once. Just let it dry for a good week or two and bam- good as new.

Let my GBA dry out, the baby actually looks better.

The screens contrast is kind of better looking now, the colours are more vivid. I'd like to thank physical abuse for fixing my GBA.

See kids, this is why all y'all need to be careful with your systems. Only consoles I had which are unplayable were my Genesis and SNES.

Why are they unplayable? Well, someone kinda broke into our house ten years ago and STOLE them, soo...

If I'm wrong about any of the following, please correct me, k? My understanding is as such: The reason it dies in water is because running it while it's wet causes the electricity to arc through the water since the resistance is less than the wire. Because of this, signals are rerouted or blocked so while it's wet it won't function. Additionally, the pressure from the electricity not running the "correct" route stresses the wires and causes many of them to cease function, causing parts of the system to not work from that point on, or worse, causing the system to cease function altogether. Of course, if it's not on while it's wet then none of this happens so there's no problem.

Exactly, while wet they get massive short circuits which can ruin things by sending too much power to the wrong place. Though I think if you like soak it, the water can actually eat away at the circuit panels. Also if it gets into the chips you're pretty screwed.

I've always found that smacking something just hard enough to jiggle the innards tends to make it work. Dunno why but it works. (Messes up moving parts sometimes though; my computer crashed from it once. ) Of course with Nintendo products that's a pretty damn hard smack.

Interesting thing about the CD player, it wasn't actually very damaged despite being literally half-full of water. Like I picked it up and I could hear it sloshing around inside. The water had shorted out the buttons, so it was actually playing when I found it, seemed to work just fine. Of course after that soaking the buttons didn't work right, so it would rarely turn on and if it did they wouldn't do the right things. Eventually it got to a really weird state where it would turn on, but then turn off a second later, but if I held the batteries in tight it would run for a good 20 minutes or so.
