Today, it happened, I lost someone very special to me.

I was standing waiting for my bus outside. Then it all started. I knew it was going to rain, so I put all of my belongings into a garbage bag and stuffed them into my knapsack. It didn't work...

You see, all this week and most of last, I'd been levelling up my pokemon, breeding super men to make killer teams of absolute hell. My Pokedex in Leaf Green was as high as you can get it with an e-reader, trading, etc. I was that good . I came home today, and was hoping to finish the Second Elite Four wave. I pop open my SP. And then I notice something. It was coated with a light bit of water. Soon, I dried it all off, turned it on. Then the problems started. The screen has a hole from water getting into the LCD. The thing can't read cartridges anymore and the buttons cause it to make weird noises. Like "blarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". I think that it has passed on...And now I have 20 carts that I can't play for a long time

edit:: OMG it kind of works now. I belted it against a wall out of frustration so it works...I don't quite understand, but apparently the rugid GBA design is fixed out when anger is applied.

I know how you feel. I've had that happen to my GBC. But instead it told me to fuck off and leave it alone. It was ruined. No longer the lovable GameBoy I once knew. Luckily, about a month later, I got my GBA.

Looks like you'll have to buy a new one...or ask Santa for one.

Sucky. I lost a 2-month-old $100 CD player that way. (Left it in the tent. Guess what? LEAK. Water somehow managed to go through the walls, there wasn't even a hole. ) But I got it replaced under warranty.

Is the actual game alright though? I've had several copies of Red and Yellow die with symptoms like that. (Haven't actually owned many copies of Blue. ) Though I think it's because their memory chips are weak... Super Mario Land uses the same one and has also had the same problem (incorrect ROM address mapping).

Heh. I accidentally dropped my GBA in to the toilet while it was on last year, but now it's recovered... Except for the fact that the L and R buttons don't work

Seriously though when you hit it it probably jolted some of the water out. I would put it on a towel and just let it sit for a few days, maybe function will be restored when it dries if you don't turn it on again. Because as long as it isn't turned on while wet it probably won't fry itself, and there is a chance it'll survive if it is...

I'm so overly paranoid about my GBA SP, I handle it as it would explode.

Well, I did drop a wireless phone into a glass of water. Drying it with a towel then letting it airdry for a few days did the trick. I took the battery out.

Why don't you take out the battery (to avoid short circuit), then try to let it be for a few days? There might still be hope... unless the screen is really that fucked.

Oh everything works after going through the washer. I seriously have yet to encounter anything that hasn't. Even my not waterproof watch worked after I got a new battery for it.

although no real attachment is involved owning a TI-83 calculator, I still dropped 80 or more bucks on it back in high school.

years later back in college, I had just filled up our five gallon water jug at the grocery store (necessary when living in Arizona) and placed it in the back seat of my car. my book bag was in the passanger seat up front containing the calculator.

well, stupid me took a sharp turning forcing the water jug to spill in the back seat. this freaked me out and thus I slammed on the breaks. this, however, made the bookbag slide forward off the seat and onto the floor where inturn the flooding back seat water also decided to go.

ruined calculator

several days later in anger, I slammed it on the ground. picked it up and turned it on.

fixed calculator

Theres only one statement that sums up this topic.

Technology=durable Misuse of technology=even more durable...

Youd think most of these things would implode (Sarcasm)

Fortunately for me, the worst that has happened is my battery back for my gameboy went broken... nothing a little tape cant fix

well I wouldn't be surprised if you got it working again Ziff, I remember i dropped my original GB into a sink full of water and after a week or so it works...

and GBA/ SP's are very durable... I stepped on my SP (not intentionally) and it didn't break... over 200 lbs of force there...

What will kill a gameboy though, is stepping on the screen. It will be fricking DEAD. I wish I wasn't speaking from experience here =/'

I remember one lady sent a letter into nintendo power 3 years ago, and she told about how her son accidentally left his gameboy out in the yard, where it was rained on, chewed on by a dog, and runover with a lawn mower, when they found it, it still worked o_0 they even published a picture of it...

i had a gameboy pocket, and when a kid and me were fighting over it(the same day i got it too) it fell to the ground, it worked but the road took a huge chunk out of the corner...

having it break isnt as bad as leaving it in a public area(mall, resturant, park etc)
well, maybe it is, mine isnt broken so i wouldnt know.

Hardware can survive water -- but NOT if you power it on while it's still wet. Maybe that might've been one of the things that upset this

I've heard of stories of pots of coffee being accidentally spilled into the back of monitors. Unplugged the monitor, let it dry out for a week or so, somewhere dry, plug it back in, it's fine -- although it makes a lovely roasting coffee smell for a bit after startup.

I remember, in an old issue of NP, there was a picture of a Game Boy that went through a fire or something. O.o It wasn't in a playable condition or anything like that, but if you looked at the picture closely, it did in fact continue to load games fine (I believe the buttons were melted, though, and the screen was warped too).

In short, Nintendo has always been known for durable products.

I dropped my GameBoy Color into the floor too many times. It caused a really crappy sound quality. Luckily my bro had one which I used instead.

Don't feel bad ziff, we've all had our fair share of lost gaming systems :'( *pulls out his list*
I lost my sega genesis due to a hammer... um, accident?
my dog pissed in my SNES
I threw my GB across the room, when it hit the wall the screen shattered, and so did the case.
I had an N64 get "pepsi'ed"

but that's about it, the most tragic was the SNES ;~; imagine losing your only system at a young age, it's just heartbreaking so look at the bright side, it didn't get pissed on =D
