In stores, I've noticed several things happening that seem to indicate that the store in question is run by a bunch of idiots...
- They sell 1-liter bottles of soda for more than their 2-liter bottles of soda. (I think this is because they think people will buy other things with them, but that still doesn't prevent it from being a moronic concept.)
- They make announcements over the intercom to the effect of "Buy our [insert object] now!" Now, normally, this wouldn't say very much about their intelligence, but they do this at 3:00 in the morning, when the place is almost completely empty.

I'm convinced that this little corner store around here has a "chocolate wheel" pricing system.

Bottle of Coke? How much? Let's spin the chocolate wheel and see!!
*spins wheel*
Round and round and round she goes..... where she stops, nobody knows!!
Three Dollars!!

I only say this cause the prices seem to change all the time.... the guy behind the counter will sell a bottle of Coke for one price to one person, and at another to another person.

....does he think we're stupid and we don't notice?

I have actually seen that in a shop, a big bottle of coke was cheaper than a smaller one.

Tarale: That shop dosen't have any set pricing on their products?

I usually do an price/liter price/weight comparasion. Sometimes they try to fool you that you get more buck for the bang. When you do not.

Well, we've never noticed any set pricing system. It's a very very little store though. They don't label their stuff, you take it to the counter and ask "how much?"

Then they pick a number, any number...

It's like Gambling, but less fun!

...does anyone really shop from that shop? Really, I don't like asking questions at a counter when it comes to small things as buying a bottle of coke.

But then, I do feel forced to buy the biggest pack avaible sometimes. Even if it's too much... -.-;;

BTW, about Intercom. I seldom see them used for commercials around here, usually just for music and announcements to the market staff.

The only thing I could think of would be it being compact...I remember that whole Big Slam thing for Pepsi where they would sell out a liter versus a two when it started and it was half price...

Now I don't even look for portability past a 20 oz. Guess you can't easily carry a 2-liter everywhere...but a 1-liter you can...hence a lil more demand for the person that just needs more to think about later when he or she knows that they shouldn't have had so much and now they have to hold it. :\

Did you know that Coke had plans to (or may already have, I dunno) create Coke machines with a temperature sensor inside that would raise or lower the price depending on how hot it was outside? No, it wouldn't cut you some slack if you're parched...it would ask for MORE money. How sleazy is that?

There's at least one store I've been where they sometimes forget to actually close the store when it's supposed to be closed... Once I went in, and I wanted to find something (don't remember what) so I asked an employee where it was, and they said the store was closed, and I was like "wtf?" because the doors hadn't even been locked when I came in, and I'd heard nothing over the intercom about the store being closed.

Sounds like those computer stores that charge MORE money for LESS stuff...a computer package with a printer costs less than the exact same thing without the printer.

It's ridiculous. Less of something should not cost more money. It's like if I opened a rubber chicken store and started selling one rubber chicken for $10 and two rubber chickens for $5.

I know there is a reason, but I am not sure what it is.

I guess I have the evil stores then, most of the stores around here had like a two-liter for $2, and a one liter for 1$... I'd rather just go to a gas station and buy the thing that is only 2 oz away from a two liter for $1.05...

Buying in bulk is cheaper...a bit cheaper than it used to be, I guess....

I personally like it when there's a sale going on continually. That should be a warning...that it's not at a discount price.

Bastards! Course if you could find the sensor, you could just stick some ice on it.

You want stupidity? They're building a Wal-Mart here, with a McDonalds in it. Guess what is RIGHT NEXT DOOR? Yep! McDonalds!

Is this the picture you were talking about, 16BT?

Funny thing is, I don't see a Taco Bell at all in that picture. There's the beginnings of what looks like a banner for a convenience store, but other than that it's just other obscure buildings

Except for it being convenient for the people that are shopping in the store, that's just stupid

Before they made the change here in Chatham, we had a Walmart, some other store, North Maple Mall, and then Zehrs, in that order on a street. In their infinite wisdom, they've moved the Walmart over to the other side of the Zehrs, tore down the old building, and from what I've heard, they're building a new Zehrs in it's place All they did was switch the location of the two buildings, which is a waste of time and money if you ask me

As someone who worked at a grocery store for over a year, I can tell you that it's like this with most items. It's almost always, at the very least, cheaper by the unit (If not cheaper outright) to buy in bulk.

As for the soda, I have a feeling it's mainly a convenience thing. Particularly for an employee on break, it's just a hell of a lot more convenient to buy the 20oz or 1-liter drink than a 2-liter drink.

Long story short: Everything at a store is done for a reason, even if you're not exactly sure what that reason is.

Meh. This is nothing. At a Fred Meyers reasonably close to where I live, there are two vending machines, one at each entrance. One sold soda cans for 25 cents each, the other sold them for 50 cents each. Bear in mind that these are *in the same store* not even that far from each other. They've probably been removed or repriced since I last checked, which was several years ago.

Thankfully... none of the people who run the stores around here are COMPLETE morons . There is stupid stuff... just not evident stuff.

At our wal-mart... If you enter the building from the left you'll see cans of soda for 25 cents... If you enter from the right you see cans of soda for 60 cents...

I wonder which to buy...
