Well, that's common sense.

He refers to Methodist, Catholic and Baptist denominations as cults and believes the Ten Commandments apply only to the disobedient, not the righteous.

So... if you've strayed from the path, you need to follow the Ten Commandments; but if you're righteous, you can commit adultery and worship false idols?

Well duh. The President of the United States is from Texas, and he's insane.

It's scary what people will do because of religion...

For an extreme lack of better words... Woah...

I wonder if that minister is like a demon in disguise or something... (He lives in the past and teaches the old testament probably ignoring a good deal of the new testament...)

to answer the thread's question... there's nothing wrong with joining a cult. just make sure it's not a cult of psychotic freaks who want to belittle others or discriminate against others and you'll be alright. a good cult/religion is one that you practice in private because spirituality as the bible says (since it seems to be the leading quoted text used for religious bigotry and hateful acts when it shouldn't be) should not be made a spectacle. Apparently everyone misses that part.

Sad story. Although I'm fairly certain there is a God, and he helps us, I think it's foolish to be deluded into thinking religion can solve all your problems. If it could, people would already be doing it, and we'd be living in paradise.

My brother's in a cult

This is just sad. I just don't see how under any teachings you can willfully cut the arms off a baby. It's just... terrible.

I don't really think the teachings had anything to do with the arm cutting offing directly. (?) If anything they probably just made her more conflicted between what her church told her to accept (feminine submission) and running away from her problems (her kids, possibly her husband).

Wait a tic...I remember that lady a week or so ago being on the Today show...now she's pointing fingers at who influenced her?

What...the crap? If you don't have the mind to think for your own about the fact that severing lil babies appendages is wrong you really don't deserve to think period, influenced by some religious fanatics or not.
