| Well I've heard our generation (assuming you're maybe between 14-25) will live to be at least 100 years old of age. This wouldn't be surpring though ... for the very far future. Back in the olden days, well according to the Bible and other junk people lived to be well over 100 years of age. But then again they didn't have all these diseases and pills that some of require to live off of back then. |

But women stop getting fertile after a certain age (around 50-60) since they run out of eggs. So in that way it will not be a problem.  And well, in some countries there is a problem with the population shrinking. Sweden have that problem currently. There is a small population grow but it comes from immigrants, not newborn. | It may be possible generations from now. Back in the golden 1900s, people were lucky to live to be 50. People died from illnesses commonly caused by consuming bad food and water. They died from diarrea (sad but true) from dehydration. It depends on the environment we live in and what we can do to treat certain illnesses as well as prevent them. Did you know, they used egg yolks as shampoo back then? It's true, they did'nt have any chemicals to treat their hair like we do. Science is constantly being built upon and our technology has reached nano. Although it's not commonly used to treat any diseases yet, it's very possible that we will use nano-technology to fight certain diseases. Medical research says that these tiny robots will constantly repair the way they were programmed to. Modern medicines just barely touched this technology and are researching how we may get these machines to replicate on their own. It's very facinating... Another factor may be the gradual evolution of humans. We become more immune to things like the common cold not just because of the medicines we use but the way our bodies react to the usual foreign bacterium. Centuries ago, people died from these now-common sicknesses only because they've just been introduced. It is estimated, that the average life expectancy of males in the United States will increase to 90-95 in the next decade or so and females around 99-104. We probably won't get to 1000 as soon as we'd hope, but our race will get there one day if history would'nt repeat itself before then. Me personally, I would'nt want to live to be 1,000, rather 80 at least. If I reach a point where I have to wear a diaper in a wheelchair, my only hope would be for Jason Voorhees to come and kill me. |

My only concern is overpopulation. We're running out of space it is, and the average human female has a time span of about 50 years to produce children. (Pretty much guessing though. ) Now extend that to like 950 years...  KABOOM! I had always thought of this as applying to immortality, but could apply here too. Basically, we'd run out of space in mere minutes. People die almost twice a second, that's a lot of space no longer being freed up.It also brings up a question... They say that we won't get all old and frail at ~80 like we do now, the timespan would be more stretched out than just extended. So does that mean every part of your life would be stretched like that? You'd be a teen until age 196.  |

| Well, it is entirely plausible that during the period of 10-8000 BC that humans could've lived up to and past 500. It is thought that due to the complete lack of soil nutrient leeching that we got enough nutrients to strengthen our body for a LONG time. | |||

| I would not want to live to be 1000 if I would be old and frail for 940 of those years...and probably brain-dead and hooked up to a breathing machine and such for 750... But it would be interesting to watch 1000 years' worth of technological development, if I was sentient enough to know what it all was. |

| the article wasn't very long. would it have been so difficult for you to actually read it? :-P The whole point of the living for 1000 years was based on the idea that technology would be able to repair our damaged cells thus making us strong and fit and youthful both physically and mentally for the duration of our life. In other words, you wouldn't be old and frail for 940 of those years. The idea is that essentially, like HyperHacker said, you'd be a teen for a lot longer. Although I doubt they'd increase the driving age ;-) And the technology would only be available to people who had already completed their puberty from what the article said. So you'd just live longer as a working adult. The only big problem I see with this is resources. Not so much consumable resources 'cause I know that if we had that technology, we'd have technology to deal with resource problems like fuel/food/etc. But what about jobs? You're increasing the workforce exponentially but the job market I don't see as being able to handle that much. Especially if this expansion of age occurs so suddenly. The only thing I could think of which might help would be to force individuals with higher educations and experience to work jobs that match that education and experience. that way entry level jobs are reserved for the numerically young so that people in their twenties wouldn't be competing for the same jobs that people in their 800's would be getting. Like DarkSlaya said, though, which I Think would be very true in this fantastical lifespan is that science would surge upward at an enormous rate because scientists could continue their research for such a long time and actually -complete- their research. And now playing a little in my head I'm thinking about it and with lifespans of that extent, science fields would be a HUGE job market so I imagine more people would go into science and depending on the type of science, it can be rather hazardous to your life... so maybe they would live to 1000 on their own, but then they blow their head off in an experiment at age 150 :-P We'd have to have some sort of caste system, I'd think, to deal with the large population, though. Dependant on numerical age more than social status to determine jobs or something 'cause that'd be really chaotic I'd think for people to find jobs. I mean, hell, most cities have a few million citizens and its hard to find a good job. If people are living to 1000... let's just guess that you're increasing the population about 10x (it'd prolly be a lot more than that) and if the job market doesn't also increase about 10x then there'd be a lot of unemployment. Off the subject of jobs, though. The scientist has like a three foot long beard... I find it hard to believe anything he has to say. And if it is true... how you gonna fit 1000 candles on your birthday cake? :-P |

| I dunno, it seemed to me like you wouldn't be young for such a long time. I mean, it doesn't drastically slow the aging process, it corrects the degenerative effects of aging. Because of this, it seems to me like you would age normally and merely stay at the equivalent of your 20s and 30s until you die. | |||

Hmm... About the food thing, though; all digestion essentially does is provide electrical energy. Perhaps we could be recharged electrically and not need to eat? That'd be cool.  |

Hmmm, if we live for 1000 years with our brains still intact, we may be able to extend our scientific research on the aging process and science in general. We may even be able to figure out how to inhabit Mars or even create our own space colonies to distribute the booming population in different areas in our galaxy. Perhaps it would take more time than I thought...  ; |
