No no no, you misunderstand. My car can do that, but that's the only way I could possibly lock my keys in my car.

Let me see if I understand you... You can't lock the door without usage of the keys if the keys aren't in the ignition?

Yeah, I think I somewhat misunderstood NSNick's other post...either that or I was on drugs... Still, in most cars you can lock the door from the inside without using the keys... |

As for me I don't drive so I haven't done anything like that. Besides, I'm not really a forgetful person when it comes to things like that. I'd remember to take the keys out before closing the locked door. |

Come to think of it, a lot of cars have a buzzer go off if you leave the keys in the ignition when you shut it off. Pretty hard to leave them in one of those. Or you could just get one of those $120,000 cars that don't use keys. |

I did it once, then got a coathanger, unbent it, and used it to open the lock in the way that Rydain described. My other half has opened his door with packing straps before (as the coathanger didn't want to grab his lock very well) |

I haven't done that so far in the 3 years I've been driving...*knocks on wood* But my mom beats you all.... She was just getting off of work and she got in her car and started it up. Got out of her car to scrape some snow off the windshield, closes the door, and realizes later that its locked... Her car was sitting there running for about a good hour before someone was able to use a hanger and open it back up again. |

Yeah, I have done that many times, but every time I was lucky enough to accidently leave one of the back doors unlocked.

My car (when I had one) was so pathetic as far as locking went actually that *any* car key could open it. So I never kept anything of value in there. You didn't even need to put keys in the ignition to start it, but it was still difficult to start and stay started. It got "broken into" a few times, but nothing stolen, cause there was nothing in it to steal. But I did lock my boyfriend's old car once with the keys in, and that's when I did the coathanger trick. Thankfully I've seen people do it before, so I had an idea of what I was doing... although it's fiddly. |

I did this while at work, so the keys were in my car for a good six odd some hours. I have so many damn spare keys, but they were either all at home, or in another bag. So I called my dad, talked to him for 30minutes in a parking lot, waiting for someone to bring me my spare keys. |

I haven't done it..yet . My mom has a few times aaand when we were on vacation in Reno. Before my mom or my aunt went in through the trunk (found some way to get in that way) into the car and got the keys. I wasn't there though. I think this will happen to me once I do get a car since I'm forgetful (edited by Bella on 12-08-04 02:11 PM) |
