There're at least three .

I once went to this site where whenever you right click, it takes you to the voting page .

Seems annoying.

I've found a website a few hours ago. It had an interesting way of "protecting" their roms: You had to go on a page, enter your Zip Code and take the Password from a page. Was fun to do, and I got Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls on that same website.

It's the only good one I've found

And did they do anything with the zip codes? At least it wasn't addresses/phone numbers/Social Security numbers/credit card numbers...

I got Dawn of Souls on another site I used, that only required a password that was freely viewable on the page Whatever site you prefer to use though, is your own choice, I guess

I'm thinking the same thing as what DarkSlaya said. That site sounds like it'd be really annoying to get anything from Did you have to vote to download whatever files you were trying to get, or would it just not allow you to right click so you would'nt be able to see the URL for the file?

I once went to a site where when you right click, a mesage box popped up in the center of your screen saying: "You do not have permission to right click." (Weird, huh?)

Actually, that's pretty common. They just do that so you won't "omfg steal their stuff", although it's really easy to get around (there's even a Firefox extension that'll do it).

What's the name of the extension?

The only place I've seen those things where they were actually good to have is in peoples' image galleries, where the artists don't want their pictures to be stolen, but still, there's always a way around that Look in the code is the only way around it I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's other ways as well

You don't even need to right-click to steal stuff...you can just go File -> Save Page As (or for the HTML source, View -> Page Source) (these directions are for Mozilla, but other browsers can do the same things).

It is, but I was talking about how to steal stuff when right-clicking is not allowed...

I hate that warning, since it's so easy to go around that.

Thought then, I do understand why some Web authors places a such thing on their site... thought I prefer watermarking.

Those right-click alerts chafe my ass. They break my mouse gestures, which are bound to my right mouse button, and annoy me in general. Who the hell do they think they are telling me that I do not have permission to use a basic feature of a piece of computer hardware in my own damn house when I'm not doing anything to hurt anybody else? Sheesh.

You talking about CherryROMs? The one with the boat loads of SNES ROMs? You can download ROMs but not the ISDA protected ones...at least, to my knowledge.

I know exactly how you feel man.
Uses the same titles:
Top 55 BEST Rom Sites! OMGOMGOMG!

With flashy, seizurific colours, crappy gifs, foreign language, broken links, covered in ads, all compacted into an endless ring of utter frustration. If I could, I'd give you some good links, but in this sort of situation, it's purely a matter of peristance in finding the right site. Keep searching and you'll eventually run into a few.

You're probably right. I didn't feel like signing up for an account just to check myself. I just looked at a random ROM and I didn't look too well because it just had a message about having to log in to download, not an actual download link. I just figured that the link showed up when you logged in. Me lazy.

Anti-right-click is the spawn of Satan himself. Hence why I have it blocked.

And yeah, what's with all those sites? Top 10 ROM sites, top 50 ROM sites, top 4228 ROM sites, top 67.9 ROM sites... There must be a 'top x ROM sites' site for every number from one to however many ROM sites exist plus seven.

I REALLY don't understand why rom sites need those voting things in the first place. Why not just offer the roms for download in a straightforward fashion, rather than make people go to 100 different sites just to find one rom.

And I've been to sites where I have to go through all this voting stuff, and there is no rom. There probably isn't a single rom on a lot of "rom sites."

Lots of caps, too. "BEST ROME SITE EVER MORE THAN 10000 ROMS": How false is this.

Banedon: They say that it's to keep their site free. But if they get more visitors, they lose money, no?
